Another Adult Learner concert in Surrey (Teddington?) from katyjay and AmandaL.

It can't be in Teddington then - Teddington is in MIDDLESEX! biggrin.gif tongue.gif

A couple of updates for 2008.

The taster day I am hoping to hold in Farnborough (the same place as the Farnborough forum concert) in the first half of the year. I'm going to contact a few local music-related companies to see if they'd be interested in coming.

I'm looking to hold a single reed playday in South East London in spring 2008. More details will follow.

Ms.Fiddle
How far ahead are entries for the Leeds Forum Users Concert in May posted?

I'm definitely up for that one.

Hi Ms.Fiddle, I'm the organiser for the Leeds concert and it will be great if you could come smile.gif

There were quite a lot of string players at this year's concert, and I think most of them are coming again next year so you'll have lots of people to play with. And you'll have the opportunity to apply for a solo slot as well if you'd like to.

To give you an idea of what happens, go to this thread about the Leeds concert. No need to read all 34 pages(!) - just click on one of the links in the first post which takes you to the Leeds concert web site. The photographs of the concert start with this post.

Next year's concert is likely to follow much the same format, but there was a bit too much going on biggrin.gif so I've cut down on one or two things. For the benefit of anybody who's interested in Leeds next year, there will definitely be a recorder ensemble, a choir and a jazz/swing band which Petrat, Katyjay and Barry-clari respectively have already kindly agreed to direct. Barry has also offered to put together a Grand Finale which anyone can take part in. There won't be a large string ensemble next year, but there will be the opportunity for more string quartets and smaller ensembles.

I'm not planning to invite external exhibitors next year, although this year's forum member exhibitors will be welcome again next year if they wish to attend smile.gif

Ms.Fiddle, to answer your question about entries, the 2008 Leeds concert web site will probably be uploaded a couple of months in advance of the concert date, and the application form will be on there. I'll probably start a thread well ahead of that though - last year the first thread started in December although I think I'll try and contain my excitement for a bit longer next time around biggrin.gif

Look forward to meeting you then, but I'll probably meet you at Market Harborough before Leeds smile.gif

I think I'll wait until I'm 18 and don't have to drag 'a responsible adult' along with me. Roll on 2009 laugh.gif

As far as I know, you only have to have a "responsible adult" with you if you have some sort of responsibility at the event. If you're just planning to come to enjoy yourself, you can come without a responsible adult if you're over 16. This is what I've told somebody else anyway so I'd be grateful if someone could correct this if it's wrong wink.gif

I´m sort of in the resverse situation.... trying to sort out a venue for the date. ohmy.gif
Sdaly the piano wasn´t so good this year (same piano, just seems to have ´gone').

Ooo, just noticed the new board.

Have added a clarinet/saxophone playday to the calendar, for late spring/early summer.

I'm working on two/three possible venues (in South London), and will post fuller details when everything's sorted out (barry-clari has a LOT on his plate at the moment...) smile.gif

Today I added another piece to the jigsaw for the first Welsh forum event. Now we have a great venue, a private gallery visit arranged and a stately home's music room in which to play. It is all looking good. I have ordered fine weather too.

I'm organising a residential weekend near Ipswich from 1-3 April this year, and I know of at least one Forum-dweller who'll be there (hi, SaxFan!). The course is called Suffolk Wind Ensemble Residential Course, and it's open to adult players of flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, French horn and sax.

Here's the website, and there's also an online form for making a provisional booking:

If it could be added to the calendar, Bari, that would be fab!

Belstead is a lovely place - I've been going there regularly for the last 25 years or so! I'm off there this weekend with a group of friends actually, for a Go-it-Alone recorder consort weekend. One just has to be careful not to eat SO much of the wonderful food as to be totally incapable of doing anything else afterwards laugh.gif !

I'd be tempted by this Wind Ensemble course were it not for the fact that it clashes directly with the Easter Early Music Week at Ascot, which I always go to - and am already booked up for.

Belstead is indeed a lovely venue, and because we're a music course, they're letting us have the run of the place.

This year our course is being run mid-week because Belstead was fully booked for weekends, but we hope to run it over a weekend in '09 and beyond. I think it'll be really fun (my unbiased opinion, of course happy.gif ), because Stephanie Reeve, who's in charge of the musical side of things (I am but the humble dogsbody/organiser) is a great teacher and knows how to pitch things so that everyone will get a lot out of it.

Yay, I'm getting excited already!
