Hi Murphy,

Are you asking which scales you need to learn? For Grade 1, you need to know F major, G major and E minor only.
sbhoa
If you are asking which is the related major key, which you seem to be, then the answer is C major.
its so rock n roll
C major (no sharps or flats)

Is that it?? I never took grade 1, jumped straight in at 3 after playing for about 2/3 years. I'm stunned. <thinks about number of scales required for grade 8> <cries>

Oh I understand why you wanted to know Murphy, it's just, <thinks of grade 8 scales again> why can't I go back to beig a beginner again?

tasmin i know what you mean! omg one octave scales what are they again?!?!

I've got to start grade 5 scales when i go back to school- not looking foward to it.

What grade is it where you have to learn the harmonic and melodic form of the scale?? My friend who has done grade 8 said there are about 100 scales in grade 8. blink.gif not sure whether she was exaggerating or not.

tamsin
I don't think she was exaggerating exactly, but then I've never bothered to count. Suffice to say, by grade 8 its every scale in the blue book which is quite a few!

It grade 6 where you have to be able to play both minors, and I'd strongly recomend that you start them asap, even if its just playing them through to get your fingers used to the patterns~ I'm still not fully comfortable at switching between the two now! I do that irritating thing where you get about half way up and think 'am I playing the right form' by which time I'm confused and have mucked up completely!!

Still you might find you have no problems...

(ha ha)

tamsin
Well I did recommend you start asap! Just dont play them so often you get confused for the scales at your current grade!
