I'm feeling a bit uncertain as to how my study towards Grade 7 in November is going! I know it would be much easier for me if I did have a teacher, but I really cant afford one. I relied on my University lectures to get through Grade 6, and it worked well and I passed. When I go back to Uni, I'll try and get some time in with another teacher to help me again, but tonight I just feel unsure about it all. I shouldn't quit when I'm having a down-day I know, but it all seems really difficult and out of reach. I'm confident on figured bass, and melody writing. It's the score analysis which is really getting me down, and is worth half the exam paper! blink.gif

I got the Grade 7 Abrsm Music Theory in Pratice today, to help me out. I'm going to study it every day and see how I improve. I think I need to pin-point study areas so I can learn more effectively. I feel I have got better recently, but not enough at this time to pass the exam. I'm going to take the exam whatever happens to see how well I do, and if I fail, I'll just take it again.

Have you got the Big 7 by Anthony Crossland & Terence Greaves? It's better than MTIP7.

Thanks for all the suggestions! smile.gif

I have the Theory 7 book on my wish list at Musicroom.com! I'm going to purchase it, and hopefully it will help me some more. The book I've brought today is very lengthy, and hard to digest. That's proberly why I felt a bit sick of it all blink.gif
I'm not going to give up! I just had a real downer today! The first since starting my revision. I want this way too much to quit!!!

Books on how to do it are all very well, but musical theory is about an activity: music making. Without the practical application (writing, reading and analysing music) books are about as meaningful as reading books to try and learn to sail without going to sea. From the opposite point of view, going to sea without charts (making music in ignorance of theory) is a dangerous thing too, which is why you need both, and a third thing: Even if it is only on an occasional basis, get a teacher.
