You could try Paul Harvey's 'Three Etudes on themes of Gershwin' - theres a tierce de picardy ending for Summertime if you like multiphonics and have big hands smile.gif

I don't play much jazz, so I can't reccomend any more suitable for A2 - sorry!

Hi Rosemary
I found the "Gershwin thingy" in the music shop and so we bought that and a Benny Goodman +piano book that didn't look too easy. Its for my daughter who will be taking A2 next year. I shall keep looking! -any more suggestions welcome. Thanks biggrin.gif

Theyre's a benny goodman book I can't remember the name of. My friend has it. Anyway there's a piece called slipped disc which is really nice and its a grade 8 piece(guildhall) don't know what kind of standard you're looking for?

blink.gif Wow! Do you go to a music specialist school? 5 people in Year 9 with grade 8 is realy extraordinary (not in a bad way...) . Well to me it is anyway...

nope. we're specialist in maths, science, computing, and P.E.

we have so many people with music bursaries for "incredible talent" or whatever it is. i'm working towards one... (am only gr. 7 - *sniff*)

The only G8 players in our school are 6th form!

...and on the other hand when I reached secondary school there were two people in my year that I knew of who already had grade 8 (year 7)... and no, we weren't a specialist school by any degree. (And I didn't know everyone in my year.

(By year 9 I imagine we had several, though I can't remember)

To get the most marks for your performance you need to play a piece of at least grade 5 standard for GCSE, grade 6 standard for As and grade 7 for A2. You can always play a harder piece if you wish to do so. biggrin.gif

Hi,

Just read about schools. In my school, I know of two boys in Secondary 1 with me (Secondary 1 is for those who are 13 this year) who have LTCL (performance) and 3 boys with ATCL. Quite a few of those in Secondary 1 have at least a Grade 8 in piano and a Grade 5 in violin. I'm not sure what Year 9 in England means here. We have 6 years of Primary School. Immediately after Primary School, we enter Secondary 1.

It's a highly competitive society I live in here. Hence, my recent Grade 5 in clarinet is only good for a laugh but I don't mind. I am my own person!! Hehe.

Year 9 is 13/14 years old.

*Wishes she went to a more musical school*
