I've been reading over the syllabus for the LTCL(TD) exam and under the case studies bit, it says I should make my observations over a period of 20 hours. Then in Brackets ie. 3X 40 minute lessons per week over a period of 10 weeks. I dont know anyone who has three instrumental lessons per week on one instrument. So, would a normal teacher, ie, me, have to do my observations over a period of 40 lessons at o.5 hour lesson once a week. (they are to young to have hour lessons at this stage).
I have to do this for three pupils with an extra 4th just in case something happens to one. That means writing detailed lesson plans for 120 lessons along with all the other bits -
Description of pupils
• Analysis of learning to date and future needs
• Any documentation shared by teacher and pupil as a record of learning
• Analysis of extent to which lesson objectives have been achieved
• Records of a summative assessment, conducted at the end of the period. An independent awarding body such as Trinity could provide this
• Goals for the following term based on the results of assessment, including examples of suitable repertoire and activities to
support future work.

All in just 4,500 words +/- 10% Seems almost impossible without having to cut huge chunks out. blink.gif

Does anyone have an example of a a case study I could possibly read? Please PM! wacko.gif

I make this 10 lessons at half an hour each for 4 pupils (5 hours each per pupil) = 20 hours. Which makes 40 lessons to write notes for, not 120. Unless the requirement is 20 hours per pupil? smile.gif

ph34r.gif I feel really stupid now - that makes complete sense. That would explain why they say 3x 40 minute lessons, they mean three pupils in one week with 40 minutes each. blush.gif

Just to clarify:
"This component [case study] involves the submission of case studies based on three pupils which the candidate has taught at different
stages of learning.Observations should take place over a total of 20 hours’ contact time (e.g. 3 x 40 minute lessons a week over
a period of 10 weeks)."

That's how I interpreted how you described the regulation.

They specify "a total of 20 hours" so the whole lot needs to be 20 hours - don't make extra work for yourself! biggrin.gif biggrin.gif
