Full Version: Starting Out As A Teacher

I just did my grade 8 piano this summer, having begun playing again a year ago, after getting my grade 6 about 17 years ago. I tentatively mentioned to my teacher that I'd like to look at the DipABRSM teaching, with a view to maybe doing some teaching in the future, not sure what his reaction would be. He says it's a great idea and I could even start teaching right away (or quite soon at least) which was very pleasing but scary too!

So I just wanted to introduce myself to this forum, I've already enjoyed reading many of the threads about teaching, and hope to join in more now I'm beginning this exciting journey. A year ago I never thought I'd be where I am now, and probably 5 years ago I would have thought 'I'm never going to resort to teaching.' Now it feels like a really exciting and positive thing to do, and I can't wait. Also, having had periods previously where I was working at home, I'm looking forward to those winter mornings where everybody else is trudging off to work, and I can sit with nice cup of coffee and the fire on and wait for my first pupil to arrive. biggrin.gif

So now I just have to be patient because I know it takes time to build up pupils to to find one's feet as a teacher.

Welcome to the forum. I can tell you from my own experiences that it's really good to see your pupils progress and enjoy their music making. It's very rewarding. smile.gif

All the best for your teaching career.
