Dear all,

Am looking into buying a Petrof or Boston baby grand. Does anyone has any suggestions of which one is better? All I know from the music dealer in my hometown is that Petrof's grands are a little more dearer but they're definitely manufactured and shipped from Czech while Boston's grands are manufactured in and shipped from either Japan or Shanghai, China, so they're less expensive in terms of labour cost.
I've tried both and found that I like the touching of Petrofs but the dealer is trying to hard sell me the Bostons because of their larger soundboards. One thing I'm concerned about Bostons is its quality as they're either manufactured or assembled in China - having doubts about China made products!

Would really love to hear from anyone who knows sth about either brand cuz I really don't want to make a wrong choice in buying the China made Bostons. Thx sooooooo much for your advice. unsure.gif

Hi - I bought a 20 year old petrof p3 about 3 months ago (6ft 4) and I love it. The high notes sing out and I can thump out rach 3 on it and it meets the challenge comfortably.

I haven't played on a Boston piano for a long time but I have to say I love the petrof - it has a v big sound for its size and the main reason I chose it was because of its very heavy action. When it comes to full size instruments, I'd go for a Steinway (as most people would) but for a smaller piano it's the best make I found which was affordable.

I used to have a Petrof boudoir grand and I absolutely loved it. It had the most wonderful tone, rich and sweet at the same time. And a lovely touch which was not too heavy. Due to moving house I unfortunately had to part with my lovely Petrof, but now I have recently bought a Petrof upright (secondhand but almost new) and love that too.

Thanks to all for sharing your wonderful experience on the Petrofs and Bostons!
Both brands are equally impressive in terms of their tone and quality. As I live in HK and if I go for a Boston grand, it would have to come from, most likely, Shanghai which is a China made product. Petrofs are a little more expensive but their origin is definitely from Czech.

Regarding Chocolatedog's Boston, I guess yours' definitely from Czech if you reside in the States or Europe. So, you can count on its quality. Anyway, thx to all for your advice. I will have to do more research on both brands before I really wave my magic wand! laugh.gif
