Hi, I'm taking Gr8 soon, and have chosen to do the Albeniz Castilla from Suite espanole for the C piece. Anyway, I bought the edition recommended by the board in the syllabus (schott), but on my first lesson of playing it through, my teacher (according to her edition) noticed that the schott edition had numerous mis-prints, and in some places, it seems as if the editor has just added in left hand notes where he feels like it. I know that sometimes music changes over the years (kinda like chinese whispers), but there are at least 5 occasions where my edition is quite different to hers. Does this matter when it comes to the exam, because I don't want an examiner who knows the piece really well saying I've played wrong notes when it is just what is written in my music. huh.gif
I'm guessing it shouldn't be a prob. but has anybody else noticed the differences??
Thanx,
ping-lee
i'm not doing that piece but i had a similar problem with chopin e minor waltz. In my teacher's edition she had the repeats written in full (so you had to play the repeats) but in the edition by ABRSM the repeats aren't written out in full. in the exam you don't play repeats so i going to stick to ABSRM version smile.gif .

I would think that the best thing to do is stick to the recommended edition that you have, they can't complain about that one because that's the one they specify (and you can complain if they do!). Having said that they do say that any edition is acceptable so I don't think that you'll have too many problems they should be willing to accept any edition since they do say so. Perhaps you could offer to let the examiner look at your music if you're worried.
