I have looked at Foote's rental/purshase programe where u need to pay 20% of the price of the instrument first for renting...
That seems high, I would have thought you could do better - but if that's the going rate then you could buy a perfectly adequate beginner's one for the cost of the rental!

Also for the Gliga violins, do you know any good shops in london which stocks them, becuase at the moment I only see them on the internet. As a beginner, I think it is safest to buy and get it setup in a shop...
Beare and sons wholesale them, so you might find them available in some retail shop. However, the best known people in the UK for Gliga (and the ones who originally imported them) sell them retail for less than Beare and Sons wholesale price, so it's probable that many shops consider themselves unable to compete on that brand and therefore choose not to stock them. However you could try asking the wholesaler if they know of anyone. Their contact form is

I have consider buying online then taking it in the shop to get it setup....
Absolutely no need, if you're talking about a Gliga.

I have also been looking at the : Otto Klier 2E and Karl Hofner H5 on the Foote's website, what does everyone think about those.
We had a 2E in once, it's fine if you want a German instrument. Piranito strings are horrible though (in my humble opinion). Also in my opinion, German violins no longer represent the best value - East Europe and China have far lower labour costs. I've not seen the Hofner as far as I recall

Also, a lot of forum online talks about how antique violins are better sounding for the same price as a new one.
Not strictly accurate. A violin sounds better once it has matured, but that does not mean that any old violin is better than any new violin!
