I am going to play Schubert's Klavierstücke D946 No.2! Great melody, isn't it? But my piano teacher wants me to play some easier Chopin Etudes first to build up the skills in order to play the piano piece well. Any advice? And are there any people who have played Schubert Impromptus. I really want some advice and comments!

I think there was another thread on the Impromptus. I play all of them
In my opinion the one to learn for a performance is the E flat (second set no 2 I think from memory)

You amazing person! Fancy being able to play ALL of them. I am in awe.

I have a CD of Alfred B. on the Phillips label playing all of them. I have all but worn it out.

Now I have my grade 8 (I am very old...ha ha) I am going to learn one of them from the diploma syllabus, just to see if I can do it, because I don't think I would have the courage at the age of 57 to actually take the dipABRSM. Too scared.

Then, what is the grade level for D946 No.2? I want to learn it, but I am just grade 6/7ish, so if that is beyond Grade 8, I won't touch it. I want to perform it in an music exam.

OK you may be struggling with No 2 in the second set.
More to your standard is No 2 in the first set - you should manage that one.

Do you mean D899 and D935 Impromptus?
fsharpminor
Yes try D899 No 2 in A Flat. smile.gif

What about Chopin Etudes? Although they are obviously too difficult for me, my teacher really wants me to play a few of them to build up my techniques. Which do you recommend? "Aeolian Harp" (Op.25 No.1)seems nice, has anyone played it before?

Seeing your post, I have just had a go at it !. Not too difficult to start with but I gave up after a bit ! I think much too difficult for you !
If you want to do some Chopin Id stick to Waltzes, Mazurkas ( eg Nos 5,6,10,13,14,30,40,46,47), and some Nocturnes (eg No 2,6,9,11,18), or the Raindrop Prelude in Dflat.)

(PS I will be in Hong Kong in January, probably only for 1-2 days))

I am thinking of playing Prelude Op.28 No.16, really quick, and should be easier than those etudes. My teacher wants me to play a quick tempo piece to train my fingers running and this should be suitable, I hope. Moreover, the Op.22, the "Andante Spiniato" also impresses me and should be within my reach.

P.S. Hope you enjoy the Hong Kong trip!
