I've been looking on the internet at some re-conditioned Yamaha pianos, mainly U3's. They are usually from around the period 1975-1980. Has anyone any thoughts on these pianos? What about a new U2 then? Is there a major difference between the two models? (I know that the U3 has longer strings etc) It's just that I'm toying with the idea of selling my Woodchester for a U3...

Altough U3 is better than U2, I'd look at the condition of a 20-30 year old piano and how used it really is. If subjected to heavy usage, I think a new U2 is a safer bet.
U2 indeed has stronger strings but they are longer than U1 and generally considered as adequate for up to Grade 8 level. More more demanding works, it may not be good enough.
