Recently I recieved a digital camera for my birthday. Hurrah!

However, that was two days ago, and I have already changed the batteries once. Admittedly I was only using the ones it came with, but I was still not pleased with the performance, so I would just like to ask if anyone can recommend a kind of AA battery with a RIGHT long life?

Remember to switch it off when you have finished using it

That should do the trick

I had just the same problem with mine. What you need is a set of rechargeable batteries and a charger. The ordinary ones don’t last long at all. When I changed mine to rechargeable ones they lasted for ages. I hardly ever have to change them form one month to the next.

But I want batteries that work, not ones that I have to recharge!

If you don't want to buy rechargable then buy Lithium batteries. These should last over an hour. Don't buy Alkaline batteries, they don't do so well in Digital Cameras.

An hour? Is that the best one can get from a digital camera???

Not a problem. My camera takes two batteries and the charger has four so I keep two in the camera and two as spares fully charged.

But then the charger has to go with the camera, else you can't change them. I want to be able wo wander around with my camera for a week in wherever and not worry!

Yes, a digital camera with the LCD on will use a lot of batteries.

You can buy extra batteries to recharge and take with you but they really do last for ages. I haven't changed mine in about three weeks and I use the camera quite a lot.

Then invest in a few sets of Rechargables and then carry them around with you. Carry a set around with you and then leave a set at home!!

I bought my charger from Argos with four batteries for around £15. I don't know the make but it has been a good buy.

Digital cameras seriously munch batteries - I agree with B, the best ones have a built in battery.

But his was a birthday pressie and maybe there wasn't a choice. Mine is great with rechargeable batteries. I expect that Bobifier will be pleased with his too.

Nickel Metal Hydride batteries are great, they are what I use. I have 4 sets. They last for a pretty long time if fully charged and they don't have the memory problem of only charging up to partial capacity if you charge them up to capacity one time.
Alkaline batteries are in my experience only a last resort if one's batts have run out. The ones that are designed for digital cameras are OK, but still won't last as long as NiMH ones.
And yes, digital cameras EAT battery life. Try not using the LCD so much.

I plan either to get NiMH batteries or Lithium batteries. Both have a good reputation for cameras. Ta muchly for all recommendations!
