Full Version: Scales At Grade 5

Accuracy and speed would be great for scales - but the two don't go together easily.

Does anyone know how they're marked with regard to this?
Is it better to go for a good speed and risk a few slips, or would an accurate scale, a bit slow, get a better mark?

The obvious answer is somewhere in between the two I suppose.

I would go for accuracy first but you don't want to be too far below the recommended minimum.
Have you tried playing with the metronome to help you to speed up gradually? It's also a good way to make you play evenly.

I have, and I must say it is very helpful. I would recommend it to anyone else.
Can't have a metronome in the exam though, I don't suppose wink.gif

No laugh.gif but if you are used to playing the scales at a suitable speed you will be fine.

try gradually speeding them up, playing it over and over, getting a little faster each time. a bit tedious, but it helps. ( im awful at scales, and im off to practise!lol)
