Full Version: Can You Recommend A Digital Camera?

I'm thinking that I might get a new digital camera. Currently, I have a Nikon Coolpix, an old version, and it's ok, but not great. I have to buy a battery charger and a USB lead if I want to take it to uni, as currently I share the lead/charger.

I definitely want something under £100, preferably a lot less - any good deals out there? What cameras can you recommend?

My camera - Canon Powershot A420 - cost my parents (bday present) about £75-85. If this is too much, you can buy a camera lower down the series which will cost less, but they all work pretty well. They all come with a USB cable in the box, as well as photo uploading software, and they run on AA batteries.

But, of course, I have only ever experienced two cameras, one an A410, and one an A420. I am not the one to ask for a comparison...

Thanks! I had a quick look and the charger would be £20, and then the cable, say £3 and then P+P...

Thanks for the recommendation though

I looked at the online Which? report for digital cameras. The best scoring camera under £100 was Canon Powershot A460 at £90. Best at £70 or below was Fuji Finepix A610 at £70

Thats according to Which? Hope it helps

Nikon still have a good reputation at that price range and their optics are good. Have you considered panasonic, canon or olympus. The panasonic cameras often have leica lenses. Also go for the best optical zoom you can afford. How large do you want to print your pictures. Don't be blinded by the number of mega pixels.

Megapixels - my camera has four, and that is enough to print them off at standard photo size. More than enough. You don't need more than four. Buy one that takes SD memory cards, because XD are expensive. And apparently (according to my digital camera thread), ones with specialised rechargeable batteries will last longer than ones that take standard batteries. It's looking like lithium batteries are going to work amply well for me, but they're expensive.

Have a look at www.cameras.co.uk
