Hi all,
I'm getting anew saxaphone, having just done Gade 6 on an Artemis, which I've been playing since I started. I have been recommended the Yamaha 62, would that be a good choice? If not, what would? (Could definitely not go any more expensive than the 62 though)

I've got an alto yamaha 62 and it sounds absolutely great. Tuning is good and tone is excellent.
Only slight problem might be left hand stretch to B and Bflat keys which I find difficult but that could just be that I don't use them enough.
In terms of sound I'd say this saxophone is excellent value.

i used to own a yamaha 62.
i upgraded after my grade 5 i think, and tht was roughly 4 or 5 years ago.
last year however, i realized how bad my sax was compared to my friends selmer series 2.
the low notes would hardly speak at all unless i put alot of air down the intrument, meaning i wldnt b able to play anything below a D quietly.
So i then upraded again to a keilwerth shadow, which is (in my opinion) definately worth the price.

but as u say, u dont want to go over the price of a 62.
Im not sure, but i think theres a newer version of a 62 or something. So i suggest go to a music shop and try different saxes out.
YAnigasawa is also good brand, so check them out aswell.
A good website is www.sax.co.uk

Good luck!

Sounds like a problem with leaks, regulation etc that you'll get with any horn that isn't properly maintained rather than a Yamaha 62 v Selmer Serie II issue.
