Hello all,

Most of you are aware that I have been having some major problems with my right ear since April. Lots have sent PM's etc. asking how I'm getting on, so I thought it would be easier to put something on here...

I went for an MRI scan a couple of weeks ago, because my ENT Specialist suspects an Acoustic Neuroma (a benign growth on the acoustic nerve). However, my scan results are "Inconclusive" but the MRI people have raised "concerns" about the right side of my brain. I now have to go for "deeper" MRI scans which will hopefully pick up the full extent of whatevers going on. Until we know for sure, my ENT man won't diagnose anything.

This problem has left me with right sided tinnitus, headaches, some numbness in my neck and an intolerence to high pitched noises. (Hence the reason I have had to drop out of recorder ensembles at forum events). I refuse to let it ruin my piano playing or singing.

I feel I've been whingeing a lot about it recently, but I do try to remain cheerful!!!

Your attitude of trying not to let it get you down is wonderful, but please remember that superwoman ended up having treatment at the Priory for a nervous breakdown, don't push yourself too hard.

Sorry to hear that you have been so poorly . Fingers crossed that you'll be diagnosed and can get some effective treatment soon.

I will feel better about things when the next lot of scans are done and we know what we're dealing with. Until then, I have plenty of things to do to keep my mind off things. Hopefully, I will be hearing soon about an appointment.

I'm very lucky to have this level of support from all of you.


Thank you, jod xxx I am already finding that I cannot sing or practice piano for as long as I used to. The recorder and clarinet have sadly gone into hibernation for a while. By the end of the day, my headaches tell me I need to rest. I have had a very kind offer of a weeks holiday too, that I will take up when the scans are done.

Hello all,

Have just come in from having my scans. I had a 'phone call this morning as they'd had a cancellation. All being well, I get the results on 30th october..

Then pack your bag and take up the holiday offer now Old Bean. Stuff work!

Hello all,

Just a quick update. Last night I ended up at the local hospital because of the excruciating pains in my head. I was in an observation ward until 2 am but was sent home again with some extra strong pain killers and something for the nausea. I saw my GP this morning and have been signed off work until 2nd November. I am looking forward to the break, and will be going across to Anglesey at the weekend!

I am disappearing now probably for the rest of the day as I am SO TIRED!! I would like to thank those who have sent some lovely PM's...I am grateful for your well wishes. Thank you.

Hazel, yours was very reassuring, and hopefully that will be the case with me too. Fingers crossed!
