Have anyone played this piece before? What do you think of this piece, in terms of expression, speed etc?

sorry forgotten to add the composer's name. It was composed by Debussy.

I love playing this piece, and I put a lot of expression into it. I recently found an arrangement for the harp of it, and it sounds really beautifulon the harp. Sorry not to be of any help.

It ok. Don't worry.

I'm currently playing this piece.
It's beautiful don't you agree?
It's water-like, flowing and .. lonely to a certain extend.
The tempo is rubato of course.
The notes are easy to learn.
Though the 2-vs-3 took me a week to manage!

I started it but didn't get far.... maybe I will go back to it some time.

I played it as my C piece for grade 8. I admit that at first I didn't like it much, I think its one of those pieces you grow to love as you play it.

Zongyi, 2 against 3's took you a week?? blink.gif ohmy.gif Took my nearly a MONTH!! ph34r.gif I hadn't actually realised I'd grasped it until my teacher pointed it out... rolleyes.gif

Very hard to get the delicate balance in the introduction right but when you do it sounds really pretty and 'ripply'

Very romantic piece, lots of rubato, changes in dynamics and stuff...its useful to record yourself and make sure the balance sounds right to you.

I've heard many different versions of this piece. I think a lot of it is down to a performers own interpretation. Same with speed, I play it slightly slower than the recording on the abrsm cd but I've heard it played faster and also much slower with lots of rubato...depends on what you think sounds right.

Is that the one with all the 2s against 3s??? If so, yep I've played! i really liked it, and getting the 2s/3s bit has helped in other pieces. smile.gif

Love it!

The key is not to skirt over it and play it too quickly because there are some really beautiful moments in it. On the other hand, dont do too much rubato like I did when I first started to learn it as you really lose the sense of line and the phrases. Otherwise really enjoy it when you play it, and always stick to the same fingerings! I know it sounds really teacher-y and boring, but in some places the only way to get the right phrasing is using some awkward fingerings: if you use the same fingering every time, not only will it be easier but quicker to master!
Good luck, it's a beautiful piece! smile.gif
