No digital can compare to a decent piano - I need to get a digital for my kids to use while I'm teaching and I find myself judging them in terms of which one irritates me the least, so consequently I haven't bought one yet.

Oh dear, is it then time to save up and have an extension built for your house? or do you already have a living room big enough for it? rolleyes.gif (I haven't sad.gif )

I once spent a glorious week playing a Fazioli grand in a church with wonderful acoustics. I also played their organ, and various other instruments that were lying around. I had died and gone to heaven.

However, it then took me almost a month before I got into the routine of practising at home again. Nothing sounded or felt quite as good as it had during that week.

I wish I owned/knew someone who owned a grand piano. The only time I've ever been able to play one has been in exams. sad.gif

I am definitely tempted ..... but seeing as we live in a first floor flat, it could be tricky blink.gif

I think it could just about fit in...I would just have to get rid of the sofa, tv, sideboard and husband first laugh.gif

Sometimes I get lost in the wonderful rich low sounds from my teacher's grand - how can I listen to his carefully thought out comments, corrections and critique of my (v limited) playing when there are such gorgeous sounds to be had from just pressing down a key! blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif blush.gif

I know what you mean...I love playing the grand piano at my school...it's not the nicest grand I've played on, but it is amazing. And yes I also know how you feel about coming back home and then playing the digital!!!

I'm going to need TONS of money if I wanted to a get a grand though....for the piano AND the house to put it in!! laugh.gif

I haven't played piano for weeks. sad.gif

And the scary thing is, I'm just not bothered about it.

A good piano can be good or bad.

Good in the way that you can play it and get the best out of your music.

Bad in the way that you will never again be satisfied playing anything of lower quality - it can be a dangerous thing wink.gif

the only time i get to play on a grand is when my teacher books out a hall so that his students can play to each other- and obviously due to money and the time it takes to choose and learn something for a concert, that only happens like 3 times a year sad.gif

i have a digital piano at home and im auditioning for conservatoires next month- and i keep telling my mum there is absolutely no way i will get in when the only time i get to play a real piano is at my teacher's house every other week

i think digital pianos are the exception in the "bad workman blames his tools" theory, i really do

I have to disagree - I know of at least one pianist who passed a diploma working from a digital and another who is working towards his dip (and got to grade 8 on THE most hideous piano imaginable - heaven knows how...)
Invidia
im not saying it cant be done- i did my grade 8 using a digital too

you just have to be amazingly fantastic at being able to adapt; the touch on a digital piano in comparison to the kind you take exams on/ play in concerts is so different

and in an audition situation, which is what was referring to anyway, i want to go in there thinking, right i can bring each of these pieces off at recording standard- not i can if the piano is nice to me. it probably wont make any difference in my playing whether i practised on a digital or an upright but it will help my confidence a great deal
