A bargain! I feel sure you could give Opera North useful advice on budgetting

You might well ask.... your Royal Box was not dissimilar to the cupboard which they had the cast of La Traviata walking through, to denote a change of scene

Edit: come to think of it, yours was better!

Thank you for posting this for me you wonderful woman! I will get around the links thing soon but I think our server and filters have something to do with it not always working. It eats emails too on the odd occasion.

There are a lot of guest houses and b and bs in the area. A Google will find several but it would be a good idea to search for the village of Ty'n y Gongl also. This is the upper part of Benllech. and very near to our venue.

We'll be looking for somewhere in Beaumaris so that we none of us has to drive after the meal.
Probably try to sort that out today.

Jan 3 2008, 11:12 AM
I am trying to sort out transport for us if the budget will allow it. The Bistro is rather a walk from Beaumaris itself. I will post more details later today. The Bishopsgate Hotel in Beaumaris is very good though if you want to treat yourselves. Ask for Hazel ad tell her that you are friends of Petra.

Jan 3 2008, 11:15 AM
The Bishopsgate is good. The Liverpool Arms also has accommodation available and the Sailors Return and a few other places, so there's plenty available in Beaumaris. There's also the Gazelle Hotel a little further out which has a lovely view.

Jan 3 2008, 11:21 AM
I am hoping that most people will choose to stay in Benllech though as then it will be possible to arrange a minibus to ferry us to the Glass Studios , then to the Bistro andf then back to Benllech.

Would you be able to use 'normal' recorders in your raspberry band petrat?
petrat
Jan 3 2008, 12:39 PM
Normal recorders? Well, the larger ones yes but I don't want a shower of baroque sopranos and altos if I can avoid it. Perhaps you could use a really rough reed and make your clari sound a bit rustic instead! I know that some members have dream recorders and they will do nicely.

Try as I might I cannot get the Plas to allow us in before midday on Sunday 9th to play in the music room as there is a health and safety issue because of the lack of staff earlier. It really would be worth staying for if some of the members can manage it though. Also we will almost certainly have a minibus to take us out to the glass studios and to Beaumaris to eat and then back to Benllech on Saturday. (No extra charge. it is possible to do this on our modest budget now)
If anyone needs any more phone numbers for accommodation in Benllech do ask again. There are plenty more to be found that do not appear on websites.
I have been adding the final notes to the choral item today so will add a Welsh lesson to help with the pronunciation soon.

Petra What instruments do you think will fit in the Raspberry band?
We have what I think is a equivalent of a Dream Recorder but as I need ot sort out two instruments wondered what else might be required. Would a Mandolin or Mandola do? As we are coming by train we won't be able to manage too much.

I might have a kazoo somewhere
petrat
Jan 5 2008, 09:38 PM
A kazoo will be good. We will have to include a few modern double reeds, oboe and bassoon, but the addition of a few duck callers and kazoos will add to the renaissance feel. This will be a fun item. The music will be authentic and easy, but the full instrumental line up probablywouldn't pass a Purcell Room audition! It looks as if it will be a wind band at the moment but I will wait to see what else turns up. Get working at the tenor kazoo.

I can't tell what my kazoo is. It's made of high quality plastic, I can say that much...

I think that the pitch at wich the kazoo plays is dictated by the singing voice of the kazooer Barry.

I need another one as we currently only have one. I think I'm going ot try to borrow one though.
So Bombarde and Chalumeau (it's only a pocket one plays one octave) are these ok or not?
Why am I confused???
petrat
Jan 5 2008, 10:47 PM
I am not quite sure what a pocket bombarde is but if it plays a whole ontave it will be fine. Does it have a double reed like an oboe reed? Let me know what its range of notes is and if it can manage an F sharp.

Sorry!! I'm being daft

It's the Chalumeau that is pocket and plays an octave, it's in C. The Bombarde I don't know much about but it is double reed.

It's a Clarinet mouthpiece and the body of a Recorder, has a sort of cross sound, It's only about the size of a Descant so we can easily bring it. It uses Recorder fingerings so very likely it is what your Student has although there is a bigger version.
The Bombarde is double reed, I think they are French in origin. I have a feeling it's in Bb but will have to check wiht Madam in the morning, again it's small so easily transportable.
