Just realised I missed my 4th forum birthday a couple of weeks ago!

Just found out my partners Gran died at 12pm today... She raised my OH, and was just so so generous and lovely. She shall be missed... A lot...

Oh just caught up with this! I'm so sorry muzikalbadger (((hugs for you both)))

My cat has figured how to get OUT of a catflap set to IN only.

She is supposed to be confined to indoors at the moment because she has an open wound. We are having the bathroom rennovated, and the plumber/tiler/etc means that the door is open a lot. So rather than seal off her catflap, I set it to in only, so that if she went out when the workmen had the door open, she could get back in once it was closed.

Only she's worked out how to pull the flap towards her and get out.

Which would be less amusing and astonishing if she weren't usually such a stupid creature

Need to buy new reeds again when I have several half used and at least half a box unused.
At least I should be sticking with the new ones for much longer this time.

Mine made a heroic leap (over 5 feet over 2 storeys of sheer drop) to escape from the kitchen window, giving my friend who was looking after her a near heart attack when she couldn't find the silly creature anywhere in the house but knew she hadn't opened any doors. (We didn't think she would jump to get out, which was silly of *us* in retrospect). Spent 24 hours outdoors, ate something nasty, with predictable results.

Stupid cat. (Mine that is, not yours).

A typically French dilemma...

My university has a resit exam session in a couple of weeks. One of the exams is supposed to be held in language laboratories but last week they started putting in new laboratories on the floor above. After a long series of e-mails, it turns out that not only will the old labos be noisy if they are used (from the workmen above) but that there is asbestos in the floor above so they are currently sealing off the wing of the building while they remove the asbestos.

The dilemma is:
- Do we replace the language lab exam by something else? (In which case a student who fails can bring a complaint to an administrative tribunal because he was examined in a way he wasn't expecting).
- Do we run the risk of letting the students breath asbestos dust? (In which case the students can go to court for having had their health put in danger).

You will notice that no one seems to mind if the staff breath asbestos dust

Maybe not quite as sore as yesterday.
Knee still tender ans tops of arms and round ribs have strained muscles.
Might be better to do pianoing in smaller chunks as that does tend to use the whole arm.

Logged in to the work computer this morning, all full of the joys of ready-to-workness. Only to find that all shared areas have been disconnected due to a virus, and are coming back online graaaaduaaaaaly as they are checked individually.

Absolutely fine....just how am I meant to do any work, given that what I have to do requires working on files on a shared area which is (a) cut-off; and (b) relatively low priority?

When I used to work at a Large Company with predictably Large-Scale Computer Infrastructure, one bit of it would regularly go down in the middle of the day and not be able to be resuscitated till the next day. I would just go home at 2pm or 3pm or whenever in the middle of the day it went down, as we couldn't do anything without it.

Am I playing the wrong instrument?

Just cleared out a load of part used reeds I'd had piling up from all those I needed to change.
Just had to change reeds again with several left over as usual.

Not expecting another change any time soon though.
My teacher doesn't see the point of getting so attached.....

Why are job applications so complicated? I hate online application forms - I've just had to answer three versions of what appears to be the same question, my brain is fried and I still have another application form to fill in.

I just wish I could get a permanent job

Hmm. Not so sure about that one. I'm applying for a lot of daft posts that I wouldn't shortlist myself for... I keep getting those email 'your application has been unsuccessful' notifications and wonder what the job actually was. That interview I had in Leeds before Easter I wasn't entirely sure which post it was I was being interviewed for.

and those are much better than the ones that never bother to tell you you've been unsuccessful.....I'll get off that soapbox now as I can go into full scale rant on that topic

Most of then never bother to tell you. Quite a lot also don't tell you anything meaningful after an interview unless they offer you the job.

I'm off on a boat soon to France. My occasionally useful posts will be back gracing this forum on Tuesday!
