I just counted 18 jackdaws in my garden, hoovering up all the food and even trying to feed from the hanging feeder. I know that jackdaws have to eat too, and I don't mind a few (except when they argue at 5 o'clock in the morning) but I don't want all our usual, smaller visitors pushed out.

Fortunately they've gone now, and we're down to one pigeon and a squirrel, so the small-fry will be along soon.

Looking at journeying to Uckfield - on the train.
Looked up train times. It tells me to get the train in to Liverpool Street, then out of London Bridge.
It gives me fifty minutes to make that interchange on the tube.

I've just got a map out to check my suspicions.

The Boris Bike calculator thinks I can do it in six minutes via bike (call it fifteen, adding on some time to get to hire stand / get bike / put back / walk to station at other end).
Google maps reckons on a 1.1 mile walk in 23 minutes.

Liverpool St / London Bridge is one of those awkward trips across London (and one I've done a number of times).

Possibilities include short walk to Moorgate and get the Northern Line down to London Bridge (probably quickest), or get a bus. 50 minutes is overkill, but 30 mins is probably playing it safe.

It may not really be giving you 50 minutes - the train times could mean it's either 20 minutes (a bit close for comfort) or 50 minutes.

I'll almost certainly walk it (unless it is really chucking it down) - far the simplest solution for anything under two miles, for me!

Actually, it'll be a good day for walking, as I have a half an hour walk to the station at this end, and about the same from the station to my destination at the far end (then back in to the town to hang out for a couple of hours, the back out to my destination, back to the station, then London Bridge to Liverpool Street, then station to home...might be curious enough to take a pedometer with me!)

It was beautifully sunny here just now, and now it's pouring and there's thunder. My son will just have started his 10-minute walk from school to his piano lesson, so he'll arrive on-time and soaked through, or will shelter for a bit and arrive dry and late. Hey-ho.
