Sorry ChrisH, I'd made use of the "Ignore user" facility so I couldn't reply until I saw your post.

Please don't *anyone* turn up on the day expecting to be admitted - as I said to somebody a few weeks ago who asked me if they could do that, the answer is no - unless you've applied and received an acknowledgement which you need to bring to the college with you, you won't be admitted and I wouldn't like anyone to make a wasted journey. Other organisers may have different arrangements, but that is the arrangement for Leeds.

you mean *no one* is welcome at your events AH?
I thought these were Forum events? for Forumites and inclusive rather than exclusive

And thank you kindly for your "ignore" mode how nice of you....

QUOTE(petrat @ May 24 2008, 08:30 PM) *

It is a matter of security rather than exclusion. As an organiser I had to have a full list of names and numbers of anyone attending before the day. I had several youngsters there in my charge and lots of very valuable instruments lying around and we had to know that all would be safe and well. The doors were kept locked apart from one in the main building and that room was never left without at least two bodyguards. This is a public forum and it would be a simple matter for someone to adopt the identity of one of the thousands of members who have registered but not posted, and to come along with other purposes in mind than music. That is why we have closing dates and application forms. I would imagine that forumites would be most welcome if they were to ask for a pass beforehand.

Thankyou.

Today's I have done some work for but not as much as I want. But, I think I can do it.

Tomorrow's I just need to do some memorisation, it's only 50% exam (history = 70%) and I have a first in the other half.

Thursday is going to be VERY scary! Lots to revise with no time to revise.

Friday, well I find how it has been taught quite dull, but it'll be my last exam, so whoooooo!
BerkshireMum
Very well done on getting a first in half your exam! I hope the rest of your results are as good - sure you'll do fine. smile.gif

Am I right in thinking that the first year results don't count towards your degree, but you need 40% to proceed to second year? (Or is that just the Modern Languages faculty?) If so, try to treat your exams more as mocks - could help you feel less stressed (though I note you are calm this morning).

Very best of luck with your remaining exams. goodLuck.gif

Well it was for coursework! I don't get the results for the whole module until the middle of June.

Yep, that's right, and yes I only need 40%. BUT - I do need to pass every element, so even though the chance of me failing is quite low, I still needto do ok.

Bit nervous now...but should be more so considering my lack of revision!
Maizie
Cos my degree was all on the finals (end of third year), I forget that for other people that earlier exams count for something...I'm sure you'll be fine nicki, just relax and enjoy, because there's nothing you can do about it now, so it's not worth worrying about.

****

My random thought of the day: Why are musical instrument cases by default black? Black's the worst colour for absorbing heat, and there aren't many musical instruments that respond favourably to high temperature...

Thoughts:
1) It makes people think. As in, if I had a white instrument case, I might do something daft like leave it in the car on a sunny day, because "it's white so it'll be fine". Being black, I instead think "oooh, no, must take it out of the car or it'll overheat", thus looking after my instruments. Not that I would leave them in the car in any colour case....
2) Plain black plastic is cheaper than any other colour (this is probably the real reason)

Plus, I suppose black won't show marks when bashed about by reckless twelve year olds like some other colours would...

Berkeley music cases come in a range of lovely colours. As well as being some of the best cases you might find. Hiscox are good, but only black I think.
I thought of getting a coloured one for my tenor sax, but don't which colour I like best. I see several different coloured cello cases every week...

No idea. My mum answered the phone and didn't ask. I can't see why it would be half term, when there're only three who are young enough to go to school to have a half term, and only about two others with children! My singing lesson isn't on this week either, so basically, it's a week full of revision, or panicking about the lack thereof, working on Saturday, babysitting on Thursday and nothing fun in the slightest!

I'll miss seeing people too.

My only problem is when I see an optician who decides to prescribe according to what he or she thinks appropriate for my age rather than my eyesight. Means I finish up with less than the best vision for the next 12 months at least.

Been to have my eyes tested today.

Does anyone else worry they'll get the optician's questions wrong? unsure.gif

I've got my eye test on Thursday. ph34r.gif My hope is that I won't play so many wrong notes if I can see the music properly. smile.gif

oh no!! that's a pity Lucky... oh dear.
Why is that? half term?

I'm so disappointed.
