Parents leaving clarinets in car all day on a hot exam day, when exam is in afternoon- not a good idea!

I went into the examiner and said "It's as in tune as I can get it.... if i pull it out anymore it'll fall apart!' That was with using my longest barrel too! He laughed and said "Wind instruments and hot weather- not good!"

True though that there are some wonderful bassoon solos and beginning of "The Rite" has to be one of the most incredible sounds in all of music. I think Igor had a definite affinity with the "bundle of sticks". Nice oboe parts too though.

That pianist can only get better. He is clearly not as good as some of the great pianists but given time he could be a very sought after pianist!

gah stupid French notation...I can't get my head around the crotchet rests being quaver rests backwards, and am having to go through altering each one in the three pieces I've been sent for our summer orchestra course. Thanks guys. Yes, LouiseH, I left home at 6am Friday (eurgh).

Feeling very grot and slept not only yesterday afternoon but also from 11pm til 4.30pm this afternoon! Feeling grotty emotionally and physically but hopefully being with some lovely people over the next two weeks will help.

I'm staying in the Kodaly Institute which is a converted monastery and very beautiful. I am the only person here at the moment but the hordes arrive tomorrow (the faculty all stay in the Institute but there are 140 international students coming who will be filling up the town's hotels!).

I think I want to go to bed again...
