"why piccolo profession like music?
for the lute of course..."

(not mine, but I can't remember where that came from)

one of my facebook friends just posted that it looks like everyone stayed home watching their new HDTVs and we ought to send the TV Licensing people after them (anyone who's ever had any communication from those people should know how good they are at smelling when someone's got a new telly..)

I know that the latter is sort of dark humour, but today it has really been nerve-wracking, and it's not derogatory to anyone (except maybe the TV Licensing people) so I hope that it is OK.

When I was tiny I used to love the Mr Men books. I remember the excitement when Daddy came home from work with a new one. I always assumed that they were ancient classics of pre-school literature and the Little Miss books were poor additions to the set (I think I 'got' feminism at about 11!) purely added much later to address the gender balance. It was only in the last year or so I discovered that we started reading them just before the 2nd lot were published in 1976 and Dad was going out and buying them for me pretty much as soon as they were published. smile.gif

I had complete John Mouse (also Roger Hargreaves) and Mr Men. They were bought when I was about 6 and the great thing was I could read them to myself rather than always need somebody to tell me a story!

Thanks.. I thought that I had been more worried than I ought to have been, but today I found out that some flats above a shop got torched last night. I'm glad it wasn't worse than that. The fire brigade and the cops stopped it soon enough.

It's also been a hard time at work, so I guess it's all combining to have this effect. Oh well. I've taken a week off before and not lost much, so maybe I will use the time to rest and think about other things. I've been feeling like my brain's overtaxed due to thinking too hard at work.

I too find that at the moment I am motivated less and less to play the piano, havent played since last Sat though I played organ on Sunday. I have this problem that not being a professional, I play a huge variety of repertoire, but only ever learn something to 80-90% standard rather than a full performance standard. Each time I sit down I play something different , and have just ordered some new stuff (Janacek and Bruch). The same will happen to that.

It may be pointless now- however, I took seven years off any sort of music at all. I think if it's really there, it will come back eventually - no matter how long it takes. Sometimes we just need the time to do other things. While it's great to be so totally into music that you never go a day without it, sometimes it's also good to explore other things.

Fair enough - hope things look up for you soon. In my case, the exploring actually took the form of professional improvement for my job - so I was fortunate that that didn't really cost anything, just a lot of reading and learning much of which could be done over the internet or on the job itself.
