Depending on which eye they do first, I come away with 'your sight is fine, you don't need glasses!' or 'you can't see past the end of your nose, buy these expensive glasses'. The joys of being long AND short sighted - very in both directions!

I'm always concerned when I go into an opticians. If someone you know says "Hello" to you how can you say "Hello..sorry, I didn't see you there!" Wouldn't bode well for the eye test would it?? unsure.gif

Concentrate harder on your music. Don't know if it's really true but someone once told me that professional players don't cough or sneeze during a performance because they are fully concentrated on performing - only bored audience members cough tongue.gif

I got a copy of the Inner Game of Music in a charity shop for 99p. I know some people are fans of it, and others found it useless, but for 99p I figured I'd give it a read smile.gif Pretty much anything is readable when it only costs 99p biggrin.gif

It was obviously a gift from someone to someone else, as it has an inscription on the front. This is not an exact quote, but it goes along the lines of:
"Dear A, I hope you find this book as helpful as I did in teaching me how to quiet the inner critic and just enjoy whatever it is I'm playing, love B".

It's kind of nice to find a dedication in a book where you know it meant something to someone biggrin.gif

Outside the local music school this afternoon (Wednesday when schools are shut and the music school is it at its busiest) two ten year old girls, one with a trumpet case open in front of her and a little sign "Aidez nous" (help us) and a trumpet in her hand. I could hear music playing as I approached but thought it was just a lesson I could hear through and open window and it stopped as soon as I came round the corner and she saw me; upon which her friend said in a loud whisper "If you stop playing every time somebody comes past we'll never get any money"

Following your attack the other day, on top of repeated previous harassment and my previous complaints to the moderators, I am taking action against both you and the ABRSM under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.

I am pursuing the matter with my solicitors directly after the Leeds concert.

In future, I'll probably be organising events from another forum - if I'm not around, one of my friends will have my email address if anyone wants to contact me. The one I'm working on at the moment is at a stately home in Somerset smile.gif

My oboe teacher accompanied me on the piano this morning. He kept apologising for playing too loudly and said by way of justification that he always plays too loudly when he's sight-reading.
I always play too quietly when I'm sight-reading.

So two thoughts:
1) Can the world be divided into quiet sight-readers and loud sight-readers?

2) Is the ability to play loudly when sight-reading what differentiates professionals from amateurs?
