As a treat for doing my exam, I'm going to learn a new scale from my next list, and the one I'll learn first will be F# Minor biggrin.gif

How is that a treat!? blink.gif

It was slightly tongue-in-cheek to call it a treat, but only slightly! I've been dying to start some new scales but didn't dare do it before my exam in case I got mixed up in the exam... bear in mind that I'm the founder of the I Love Scales Club rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

I saw a programme not so long ago which contained the old BBC 1 blue/yellow 'globe' symbol.

You see, that's when a logo was a logo... laugh.gif

Correct biggrin.gif

Just a nice blue/yellow slightly blotchy globe symbol, with a voiceover saying 'this is BBC 1'.

None of your tacky live action logos then... laugh.gif

...and there was the 'school dots' before schools' programmes. Which we used to watch in the school 'television room', at a specified time (hardly any mass-produced video players then...)

Our class used to make silly noises each time a dot disappeared.

Older forumites will probably remember the school dots...

Found them.

This older forumite barely remembers TV in school at all! I do remember colour TV coming into people's homes in about 1970 though! tongue.gif

For O-level, our set Dickens book was "A Tale of Two Cities", and we were taken to the cinema to see it - I think Dirk Bogarde was starring. We were always told to watch stuff on TV at home for homework: Cathy Come Home, Romeo & Juliet with Hywel Bennett as Romeo (half the girls in my class swooned over him and he didn't do a thing for me!). Then we'd have to review the wretched things for the next homework!

Those were the days indeed - and I can't say I've missed them! laugh.gif

You ought to have seen the computers we had in school.

Do you have a television which picks up Ceefax? That was the standard of the graphics. It took a long time to load programs. From cassette tapes...

During a reed workshop one day my oboe teacher said that he originally decided he wanted to learn the oboe because in France before the television programmes started again in the afternoon there was always the same piece of music played by an oboe. All his other pupils looked at him blankly and said "What do you mean before the programmes started?"

No breakfast television then...

I got very excited when we got a fourth television channel...

The oldest computer I've seen/worked with was a laptop in the school science department, running windows 3.1 I think. 'Cept it didn't really run windows very well, so I switched it to DOS mode. Then realised that I couldn't use DOS because everytime I asked it for a list of files they zoomed off the top of the page and no scroll bar!

Looking at the dots Barry-Clari mentioned, I thought to myself "That's strange, weren't they in black and white?"

Realised later that they were in black and white because we didn't have a colour telly....

I lost a friend a few months ago (as in, she stopped speaking to me). I miss her and have no idea what went wrong.

Now I don't know whether to just call it a day and forget her, or keep up gentle contact hoping she'll maybe tell me one day wacko.gif All I want to do is apologise sad.gif ... if I did anything wrong! blink.gif
Miss Ross
Why is it that when you think you know how something feels, and that it can't feel any worse, it always manages to?

Lottie - For what it's worth (not much probably) I wouldn't give up if I were you. If you haven't done anything out of the ordinary then she ought to see sense at some point. Then again, I suppose if she can behave like that, you maybe don't want to persevere. Sorry, not much use.

There are some lovely cards around these days (in our local Tesco for instance) which cater for this type of situation. How about sending her a card saying you've missed hearing from her and is everything all right? Worth a try, and it puts the ball in her court.

Nah.. he'll be pleased to have a late present - it makes the birthday last longer. Is it a painting? If so, I bet he'll be really pleased to have such a personal gift - it's a whole lot better than another tankard or gift voucher. smile.gif

There's a dettol (I think) advert at the moment which says that in 24 hours one bacteria (it's bacterium, actually, and it grates every time they say it) can turn in to twenty seven million (or some other large scary number). It then goes on to tell you that wonder-product kills 99.9% of bacteria.

So, take my kitchen counter. Let's say it's virtually sterile with a mere 1000 bacteria on it. I wipe it down. There will be one bacterium left. 24 hours later, I have the scary twenty seven billion.

I am immune to such silly advertising tactics!

Ironically, that is sort of the problem. Currently playing 3 Boehm studies, though not really looked at those, the Chaminade and the Gaubert Fantaisie. All lovely, but are at the top of my technical ability. So really have to improve technique, but just get daunted and end up not playing
