Conversation with another mother this morning - consoling ourselves that at the end of a day it's so easy to feel you've achieved nothing if you haven't ticked something off The List. So she had the bright idea that we mothers "do" Maintenance - ie if we weren't there to do the things we do for the family in general chaos would ensue.

So by the end of today, as well as teaching 6 lessons I shall happily think of myself as having done "Maintenance". Good thought. Am going to adopt it as a philosophy of life. biggrin.gif

Good thought!

And of course brings to mind that story which I'm sure you've heard: dad comes home to a chaotic, dirty house, with rubbish everywhere and the three kids running riot. Dirty washing up piled in the sink, dirty washing all over the floor, toys absolutely everywhere. Concerned, dad goes in search of mum and finds her reading in the garden.
'What on earth is going on?'
'Nothing!' (with a smile) 'Everything's fine'.
"But the mess and muddle everywhere - why?'

'Oh, well you know you always say you wonder what I do all day?

Well today I didn't do it'.

Excellent. Might put that into practice one day as well (not just at the moment - suffering A2 stress, and finals stress (long distance by phone and fb))

I have a Hibiscus plant on my window sill. It's a stringy, woody plant that some people would have thrown out I'm sure but very few weeks for the last couple of years it opens one glorious large bloom in the most gorgeous red-orange sunsetty colour - each one the size of my palm! Each flower only lasts one day then closes, withers and falls off and after a while another bud forms.

I've been waiting with bated breath this week because it has FIVE buds all at once!!!

Today it has THREE blooms open biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif It's SO beautiful!!! wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

(I know I should paint it but I don't paint flowers... although I have in the past huh.gif )

I think "La Folia" (and anything based on it) must be my disfavourite (unfavourite?) tune ever...

There are a few different Radio 3 presenters who do the overnight programme - I've been wondering idly why I hadn't heard one of them lately, thought someone was on holiday.

Then I read this ph34r.gif http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/crime/b...ge-7807574.html

I have a hibiscus in the border along the garage wall. It comes into leaf OK and buds but it doesn't usually get enough sun for the buds to open. It's a north facing wall. Might work better if I moved it to the back gaden which is south-west facing.

Hibiscus is the national flower of Malaysia.

It also makes a tasty Mexican cold drink.

hmm I have this cheap argos double duvet that I'm chucking to save space in the car and I don't like it because it never stays 'with' the duvet cover, ever, and is too hot (10.5 tog) and I much prefer my battered old single that I never got too hot in, it's perfect! Just read the tag on it and apparently it's 13.5 togs!! blink.gif do duvets lose togs with age? strange... time to strategically rethink my duvet plans for next year...

Reading about the coverage by the BBC of the Royal Pageant etc sad.gif , and the anticipation of Olympic coverage (and subsequent savings that the BBC will be making on their other programmes) dry.gif , I'm seriously contemplating buying a few dvds of the "films that I would have liked to have seen, but not been able to get to the cinema to see" recently - just to be able to sit down occasionally to see something I would like to watch. biggrin.gif

Wondering why in a competition that specifies unaccompanied instruments so many youngsters (and I'm guessing their teachers) think it's a good idea to play an accompanied piece without the piano part......

Bit of a wasted week really. Concerts last weekend, then a day walking in the Lakes on Monday, and ... very little since then. Just wet and miserable.

Orchestra last night, orchestra this morning and that's been it. None of the stuff I intended to do has happened, mostly because of the weather. That and another boring Saturday night in a long line of boring Saturdays.... Boring old TV needs to get out more.
