I wonder, if you're having a day where you feel completely uninspired about writing an essay, should you just sit down and force yourself to write, or leave it til the next day when you have to do it one way or another?

I tend to leave it, but then I never feel any more inspired the next day, so it might not be the best of ideas!

Depends how much time you've got.
If you're going to have to write it tomorrow anyway I would try to write something tonight (or perhaps I should say write anything) don't worry if it is good or bad. It will at least give you a basis to start from tomorrow - even if it is only to decide that that is not the way you want to approach the subject.

Apparently you can get dents out of carpets by putting an ice cube on them blink.gif I'm not quite sure if I believe it, but I have an ice cube sitting on my floor waiting to prove me wrong. That is assuming the dog doesn't eat it, or I don't step on it first!
hello_cello
our dogs also like ice cubes tongue.gif

oh! no, I had to read your post several times to see the ambiguity in what I'd written.
You are quite right - it can be contracted in that way and in that sense. But that's not what I intended.

I wasn't meaning to correct or change what had been written.
I was using has in its full form and with underlining to stress the question. That's all. Not sure how else I should have written it ... I guess you have to say it to be clear.

Sorry if that caused any confusion - especially to DC biggrin.gif

(ed - no, apparently DC read my post the way I had intended - thanks DC!)

Petrat - I think the forum monster lives in my keyboard - it happens to me a lot and not just online.

I have a very weird family! laugh.gif

We were just having dinner, talking about nothing much in particular. My (14-year-old) brother randomly came out with "Wouldn't it be funny if you put a glass wall in the sea, then all the fish would go *insert noise of fish bouncing off glass wall* into it." accompanied with suitable actions to show what would happen to the fish. ... a couple of seconds silence, while we all looked a bit strangely at him, then my dad said something along the lines of "But that wouldn't work because glass has a different diffractive index to water" followed by detailed explanation of the physics behind it. Then my mum pointed out you can get invisible crystal stuff, which the fish wouldn't be able to see. Then I added (in a completely not-serious way) that maybe they should make invisible submarines out of the stuff, at which point I got three very odd looks and pointed out that you could see the people. wacko.gif I was just sitting there thinking 'for god's sake I wasn't being serious!'

Does anyone else have this or is it just me? blink.gif

Did you hear about the male TV aerial, sitting on the house roof, feeling lonely.

Then one day a female aerial arrived on the house next door, and they became friends.

They soon became more than just friends and decided to get married.

The wedding was terrible - but the reception was excellent!

It sounds quite like a lot of the conversations I have with my husband.

(Cars made of sponge was one of our recent ones. I mean, cars should be made of something soft so that they don't do so much damage in an accident. So sponge is a great idea. Except perhaps if it rains...)

The other night on the tube there was an announcement: "This is a message for the blonde gal. This is London Bridge; this is your stop. You slept and missed the stop yesterday and asked me to let you know today. This is a message for the blonde gal in one of the middle carriages, so if anybody sees her, this is London Bridge."

I still wonder whether this was for real, or the driver just trying to cheer up the passengers... biggrin.gif

On train tickets, why do they use “DMR” instead of “DEC” for “December” (e.g. my tickets from yesterday had 07 DMR as the date)? unsure.gif

I'm sure they have their reasons... laugh.gif

Because ANT complained that if DEC had his name on a ticket, he wanted his name on one too....
