Pick 'n' mix sweets were the last things I bought there!
I remember when I was a child buying little records from Woolworths by a company called Pickwick, with nursery rhymes and other children's songs on them *goes all nostalgic*

Woolworths... really? In our tiny little town, everyone sort of has to shop there - it's one of our very few shops actually.

Random thoughts....
In the last two weeks our video machine blew up, our washing machine blew up, I had major surgery, my husband fell out with my Dad, and today the telly blew up.
I'm so happy to be alive
(Did I mention we have an ancient, sometime incontinent dog?

Oh... and Woolworths were THE BEST for Pic-n-mix... yuuummmmm

I am so sorry to see Woolies are going. I was a Saturday girl in the late 70's.
Now The Pier are closing too.

So true, and the cheapest too. Actually half the price of the Cardiff cinema pick n mix per 100 grams. The main reason why I'll miss Woolie's!!!

There are several branches of Woolworths around here. All have one thing in common. They're very empty of stock.

It was a greatly mourned event when Woolworths in York closed, but mainly just for sentimental reasons. It had occupied the same shop for about 80 years. I remember passing by during its final hours, and buying all sorts of reduced-price junk...

Unfortunately, I think this sums up a lot of what was sold by Woolworths. Sorry!
Maybe I'm biased, but my local store is/was awful. Naff music being played loudly (no doubt the worst of the Christmas songs at the moment), narrow aisles to negotiate - blocked up with OAPs possessing all the motion capacity of a frozen sloth and mothers blocking said aisles by leaving pushchairs positioned right across them, full of people slowly milling around bumping into others and unaware of anybody else around them, and the shop piled high with cheap tat.
Perhaps other branches of Woolworth's are better, but my local one is the pits and I shall be glad to see something better (hopefully!) replace it. A Waitrose, perhaps!

My ears hurt at the thought!
I have a piece that goes up to the G-above-top-F on a sopranino and that's scary enough - equally that's only at the thought, as I don't own a sop (though I could probably use my gark to get a feel for how it sounded. In the unlikely event I wanted to.)

Why do authors do that thing of setting up a whole love story, over chapters and chapters (or books and books, in the case I'm thinking of) and then destroy it all by bringing in marriage and babies? In real life, I think that's totally lovely, a normal way of life, but I expect something a little more unique from my tragic heroes/heroines!
Romance completely disappears when babies are introduced, suddenly the characters you love are relegated to just mum and dad, while baby is focused on. All the traits of the parents that you loved reading about vanish, in a haze of parenthood, but the baby is given them all twice over!
The true and pure love you've read about for three books (in this case) in which it's clearly shown that characters love each other more than anything in the world, is totally destroyed when they both seem to mutually decide that they're not all that bothered about each other any more, but the baby, on the other hand, they would give up anything for.
In the book I'm reading at the moment the main character (who has risked her life for her "one true love" repeatedly over the series) has just decided that though she'll totally be upset if her husband dies, the one thing she truly couldn't stand is the death of her daughter.
Can you see it in Shakespeare?
"Oh Romeo, yes I was going to do that suicide thing but then I realised I was pregnant, so I didn't. The baby's what's important now, take off that sword! It's sharp! What if the baby got hold of it?! And for goodness sake, we'll stop all that funny business right now, I'm far too tired for that - you try taking care of a baby all day!"
I don't care if it's what happens in real life, I don't want to read about it in my love stories!
I know, total rant, but it was so random, I didn't know where else to put it...

Don't want to terrify you but this happened to a friend of mine a few weeks ago. . It turned out the cut had been infected and had healed over nonetheless. Her finger swelled and became very painful and when I finally convinced her to see the doctor he said gave her anitibiotics and said another day or two and it would have been a case for amputation. So do take care!
