My tutor told me to completely eliminate a term from my essays, as I used it too often. I duly took it out, but apparently just mentally replaced it with a different one, and having just reread, before my tutorial, it appears that I have used the same word seventeen times. That's 2.9 times per page.

Does a layer of matt varnish over a later of gloss varnish result in a mostly matt finish?

I have the weirdest cold ever. I have the sore throat, the painful ears, the edge-of-headache, the sensitive skin, the tiredness, the aching all over.
But I don't have a runny nose or a cough.
My husband got ill first, and he seems to have had everything. Whereas, I feel dreadful but have pretty much no external symptoms of being ill...

Sorry to hear that Maisie. Im sure my daughter mentioned there had been a lot of people with weird colds at your mutual place of work ! At least you can get discount medication.

Yes, but I'm about to run out, so I'll have to go back in to the office! Now the cold has gone completely the other way, it's only my ears and throat that hurt now - head, arms, legs, etc all better - but now the proper external symptoms of coughing and sneezing have started. It's day 4 of this cold, I should be feeling better, not worse!

Maizie, day 4 of this particular cold was my worst. (Couldn't stop sneezing, coughing constantly...) *hugs* Hope you feel better soon. Mind you today I really *sound* as if I've got a cold, which isn't great!

I used to get called Kirsty a lot in school. My name in no way resembles Kirsty, but there was another girl in my year with that name who I apparently looked very like (couldn't see the resemblance myself, apart from our hair being the same colour!) I once got yelled at because a teacher kept calling me Kirsty and the rest of the class couldn't stop sniggering: apparently their sniggering was my fault.

However, within my family I answer to pretty much any name directed at me, because the women in my family are terrible with names, so all us girls know that our names are interchangeable. The name I get most is Karen. Occassionally I even have to answer to my brother's name, but this is rare, and swiftly corrected when it does occur.

One of my friends is so bad with names that what I hear most often from her is, "Hannah-Cassie-Jackie-fish-dog-rabbit-NICKY!" At home I will answer to the name of anyone in the family, even if they're not in the room.

My mother used to call me Pppp'...eeona all the time, and my brother answered to F'..peeter. He always called himself Pete so no-one else would think he was an alien but I gave up.

Aw, poor Barry. Personally, I love going to the dentist! He is very complimetary of things... (As is his wife, who is also a dentist in the same practice.) I always come out glowing, even if they've been stealing my teeth or something.

If this is a genuine desire to know, I believe they are usually macerated (minced up extremely small by a machine called a macerator, and then flushed away with waste water).

My nephew asked to keep his tonsils when they were removed, and still has them in a jar, preserved in formalin or something!
