I'm chortling at myself.
Chortle chortle chortle
Rewinding back to just over a year ago, before I'd restarted the flute. I thought I could have read music if asked to, but remembering this conversation, it seems that it was a different story...
I was chatting to my best friend, who was grade 5 cello (sadly, she gave up because the school was pressurising her into playing in their orchestras, and then getting cross with her when she had other commitments, plus she felt it was taking up too much time. Sad really, I never got to hear her play).
I'd just come back from a singing lesson, and enthused "Guess what! Guess what! I just managed to hit the little black dot just above the top line on the lines thingy!"
She said "Do you mean G? Or A?"
I said "I don't know! But I managed to sing that!" "To which she replied "I thought you used to play the flute..."
Then later I remember someone was talking about their upcoming exams, and were talking about scales and arpeggios. My friend turned to me and said "Do you know what an arpeggio is?" I said "Yeah, of course. It's in the Aristocats song. It's like...erm.... a scale?" She said "Do you even know what a scale is?" I said "I think so, it's like when you play all the notes, one after the other". "Why?" "Erm. To get flexible fingers?"
Hahahaha, it makes me proud, to think how far I've come since then
