My students' results come out in 15 minutes. ph34r.gif

I hope they've all passed outright. Last year one lass failed a module from another department, and I was really nervous when I had to go into the resit list to find what she'd failed (thankfully it wasn't my module). Do I get as nervous as the students? rolleyes.gif unsure.gif

We'll they're out. A bit mixed, but largely what I expected. smile.gif Most of the students whon I expected to get 1st have (there's just 2 who should have been capable of 1sts but have dropped to a 2:1). A couple of them have managed to pull a 2:1 out of the bag when I didn't expect them to, and a couple who could have got 2:1s if they'd put the work in have dropped to a 2:2. Unusually, there aren't any 3rds, ordinary degrees or DipHEs this year (at least not amongst the 3rd years - haven't checked the 2nd years yet).

Well done Team Flossie! biggrin.gif

I played a trio sonata in a concert earlier this evening and am still feeling completely hyper and not at all tired. But I hardly slept last night because I was too stressed about the concert and I need to be up at 5.45 tomorrow for work.

My uni is doing Rent next term. I cannot act, nor can I dance, and I can only safely belt up to about a C sharp, and belting really high is kind of necessary for Rent... but it's been a dream of mine to be in it like... since I was fourteen and saw the film...

Should I audition?

Never really eat sweets these days though. I do like Salt & Vinegar discos though, they burn your tongue in a strangely satisfying way.

My friends were all discussing "Who is going to be the funniest when they're drunk?"
We're 14, and haven't (well I haven't) got drunk yet, obviously (for us anyway).

So it was interesting to think about.

When it got to me, they said "Oh, you can be our sober friend. Who takes care of us and holds our hair when we're sick".

"What? Why me?"

"Because you're not allowed any alcohol until you're 18"

"Yeah, but none of you are allowed to get drunk till you're 18 either!"

"Yeah, but we're still going to, it's only the law. We'll almost definitely drink before we're 18, even if it's only 17. But you can't because of a medical problem. So until you're 18, you're going to be our sober friend".

"But what about when I can get drunk?"

"We'll think about that when it's nearer the time"

"That's not fair"

"Ok. Fine, I think you'll be sitting in a corner crying, and swearing at everyone".

"Hmm. Ok. I probably will".

It was all tongue in cheek teasing, random comment (if a little long)... so belong here methinks?

Michael Jackson has been dead for years.

Not only did he look like a ghost but his face was such a mess that it's a wonder he could breath out of those pinholes he had left where his nostrils used to be.

If you look around the time of Thriller/Billie Jean etc I don't think there's much debate around the fact that he was truly awesome at the peak of his career. He definitely lost the plot afterwards though. I'm betting his messed up childhood didn't do him any favours. sad.gif

Ohh, I've got to be posh and well-mannered tomorrow rolleyes.gif

It's my grandparents 50th wedding anniversary, and they're renting out a conference room for lunch with loads of relatives and people who I don't really know, but came/would have come to the wedding.

And they've got lots of posh friends who play golf and such like, and I've got to put my clipped voice on and be incredibly polite and practice my small-talk.

Then afterwards everyone's going back to their house for tea and dinner or something, and me and my sisters (possibly our cousins as well) have to serve all of the guests.

No, seriously, I wish mine were. It would help so much, you're really lucky. My mum isn't really interested and blanks out when I talk about what I'm learning atm. Dad likes to think that he's musical (because he used to play sax and guitar a bit in a band) so always tries to tell me I'm practicing wrong. Or if I'm getting stressed says, "Now, there's only one thing you need to now, and that's the circle of 5ths" when I'm not even talking about anything related to that! Grr.

I will definitely. I love 'em to bits, and would do anything for them, and they know that.

I just don't like some of their friends/work collegues (and they don't seem to like these ones either, but said they had to invite them out of courtesy...)

Quite looking forward to it in a way now, my parents have given me permission to make small talk about music to some of the more snobby guests, and have challenged me to try and baffle them without sounding like a bragging showoff biggrin.gif

It's not their anniversary until September, but they wanted the party in summer. I've started working on a painting of their wedding photo, should be ready by then. Hopefully they'll like it.

I think having parents or even a partner who is able to teach and/or much better than you is really not a bad thing. In the short term it will seem like they are nagging, but deep down they probably want you to be as good as or better than they are smile.gif

As long as they aren't "pushy" it shouldn't be a problem. I am the only remotely musical person I know apart from my cousin, who is a drummer but never plays anymore sad.gif Be grateful as I am definitely jealous! biggrin.gif
