A few months ago I could play Moonlight Sonata 1st mvt from memory as I'd learned it several years ago (the right notes, no real articulation) all the way through. Now I fail every time

I wouldn't worry about it too much, that mvt is pretty repetetive as they go, so there's a lot of scope for getting lost. Anyway, look on the bright side, the more times you forget and relearn something, the more ingrained it will eventually be.
