Poor Flossie smile.gif

I've just been googling recipes for things to make with elderberries (lots growing by the river not far from here) and wondered why it is that EVERY recipe site is absolutely peppered with ads for weight loss, before and after pics and ads saying "wanted women aged 19-54 to undergo serious weight loss..." Testing for a new product etc etc etc.(Oh and carrying a picture of a stick thin woman with her stomach pulled in) made me quite cross actually mad.gif People should be able to enjoy a healthy balance of food. This kind of blatant advertising is just not healthy!!!

Sorry: rant over smile.gif

Meh I've packed at stranger times.

If you look back a long way in CISD, you'll find my commentary on backing for new york last year. I'd been putting it off all day and ended up hunting for a suitcase in a pitch black loft (my brother turned off the lights and locked me in the garage laugh.gif) at about 4am because someone hadn't bothered to tell me where the keys to my suitcase had been put so I couldn't get into it to pack it. I didn't get any sleep that night and ended up with an over-40-hour day because of the time difference between here and the US. wacko.gif

I might have considered doing something if I wasn't packing for the next 3 months rather than a week wink.gif

So I thought I'd make some little slips of paper with my scales / arpeggios on them, to pull out of a 'hat' to practise in a random order. Easy-peasy, make a nice table in Word and fill in the boxes.

Count them to see how many there are, so how big a table I need. 17 of them. Darn. A prime number, can't turn it in to a table (well, except a 1x17 table).

Ah, well. I'm sure I'll do a 3x6 and have one empty box ohmy.gif
But it just struck me as typical of my week so far - good intentions ruined by an unexpected obstacle smile.gif

Put the most difficult one in twice, or add another scale that isn't on the exam syllabus so you've already learnt it ahead of time.

Ha, already decided on the latter before I saw your suggestion. The next grade up has some scales on it which are on different starting notes, so I picked on of those which I've not done before to get to grips with (I didn't choose one with the same starting note as ones I'm supposed to be doing...so that if the examiner asks for F# minor, I don't get confuzzled and do F# major having learned it for the 'next grade').
Though having said that, I don't know if I'll actually be doing G6. Oh, mind you, just checked, the scale I chose appears again at G8, so with any luck in the fullness of time I'll need to know it.

Couldn't just leave an empty box biggrin.gif

I seperate everything into tongued and slurred - always get an even number laugh.gif
Maizie
Ooooh, that's an idea, hadn't thought of that, my teacher just gets me to do them slurred when we do them in lessons, on the grounds that if you can get your fingers to work it slurred, you'll find doing it tounged no problem (or in my case, about a million times easier...he got the measure of my articulation 'skills' pretty quickly!)

Good project managers are fantastic - you hardly notice they're there, but things run smoothly with all the bits you need being ready for when you need them, issues that start developing being headed off before they become big problems etc so that as a worker on a project you can concentrate your best efforts on "your bit" knowing that someone else is making sure all the various pieces will fit together.

Bad project managers just create more work for everyone without seeming to help at all. You always know they're there because they e-mail / call you at frequent intervals for "updates" that generally haven't changed since the last time and as well as doing your bit of the project you have to spend a sizeable portion of your time filling in milestone plans, risk registers etc and still you end up grinding to a halt because the bit you're dependent on hasn't happened yet.

Most project managers fall somewhere between the two extremes.
