This isn't particularly random as there is a reason behind it. Snow.

Easyjet has cancelled my plane. I'm now in a little hotel in Roissy and will be for another 24 hours.

Post 1000.

Now off to do some Christmas shopping (ok now off to start my Christmas shopping!)

Well, I hope you find anything left in the shops! I had quite a depressing time this afternoon looking for my last few presents.

Newbury has been virtually cleaned out of gifts worth buying, with a week still to go. All the Christmas wrap, mincemeat, tree lights etc are on special offer already in Tesco and Sainsbury's, ensuring that there'll be little left for those who like to shop in the last week before Christmas. No chocolate coins, tree chocolates, etc, etc. My husband went to get a real tree last weekend from a Cut Your Own place, and all the ones the height we wanted had gone.

People seem to be starting Christmas so early now that if you try to be a bit more traditional you find you've lost out. Grump, grump... sad.gif

Why are my favourite clarniet reeds so much more expensive than the other ones I use? sad.gif

I know the feeling, Flossie sad.gif When I'm low on money, I'm pretty much forced to get the crappy £7 reeds for my oboe, when the ones I REALLY want, are the £18 ones (and that's just for ONE reed blink.gif). Society has gone crazy.

If in straightened times you need something better than a crappy £7 reed (I'm amazed you can still get one for that little) but not as expensive as your good ones, Fortay do a good range. http://www.fortayreeds.co.uk/products.htm

I generally use the Blue at £15 but was previously using the Academy, which at £12 is very good value and sounds fine.

I'm upset. I went to get a tree (from homebase) last night and they were out of them. They had LOADS on monday(was carrying shopping so could not pur-chase one then). I've obviously left it too late. Anyone know where I get one from the internet? Delivered tomorrow morning? By a fireman? Hmmmmmm, I see a gap in the market there.....

Yes I used the Blue Fortay reeds for my grade 8, but the problem I find with those is that you don't really get much time out of them... The cheap £7 I just use for practising at home smile.gif I would never be caught out in public with one of them! laugh.gif It's better having cheap reeds for practise than none at all, right? biggrin.gif

Must confess I had never heard of her, but having Googled the name, I agree it's so sad when someone dies early and unexpectedly. I can still remember the shock of hearing of Richard Beckinsale's death from a heart attack 20 years ago. sad.gif

I wasn't a huge fan or anything - in fact I think she's got a bit of a reputation as a blonde bimbo type, but I remember her from Clueless (a sort of remake of Emma, which is really fantastic once you get past the 'teen movie' prejudice) and I really loved her in it. It's very sad.

Perhaps we should swap brand names? I have taken to using my daughter's lip balm as hand cream laugh.gif
The only trouble is, hers is French and I don't know if it exists in the UK - it is called "rêve de miel."
Stephie
Has anybody ever heard of a lipbalm called ChopSaver? I've never used it, but I think the idea is brilliant - it's specifically for musicians laugh.gif The tagline is:

"For Musicians With Lips"!

As opposed to musicians without lips? huh.gif I've wanted some for ages now, but I think it's a bit late to make the Christmas order sad.gif
Roseau
The "rêve de miel" I mentioned in the previous post was recommended to my daughter by the French horn teacher because her lips crack in cold weather and once bled copiously in her trombone lesson. (Trombone teacher panicked and called the French horn teacher in to help). It really is very good and has nothing in common with ordinary lip salves.
Stephie
Rêve de miel... that's such a romantic name for lip balm! If lip balm can be romantic huh.gif laugh.gif
