Am I mad??? Just bought three pirate costumes off ebay!!! For my son's birthday party in a couple of weeks.

One for me, One for MrF and one for daughterF. SonF already has one if it still fits.......

She said she got a size 10, then thought 'If it doesn't fit, I can't be bothered to go back to the shop and get a new one' (though she's going back anyway to return the size 12! ) so got a 12 as well. (the 10 fitted)

I really don't know what came over me yesterday, posting 18 times - a cross between a barry-clari and a Solari! Evidently I've calmed down today.

I might not beat Solari's number of postings (correction, will never ...) but even his sheet music buying exploits are unlikely to see him catch up with my collection.

Somehow I've managed to pick up a Grade 7 AB Trumpet Exam to accompany next week; never come across the composer Zubiaurre before - can't be too many composers beginning with 'Z', although I have piano music representing composers starting with most of the letters of the alphabet. I know that something by Xenakis would have pretty much completed the haul but have you seen some of his music?!! There are limits!

Time for zzzzz myself.

I'm afraid that the sheet-music-buying bug in me was nurtured from my early teens. Occasionally my Dad would attend a conference in Oxford. Taking me with him, he would deposit me in Blackwell's Music Shop for the duration of his meeting, I would dutifully spend my pocket-money on a purchase and we'd then move on to the bookshop before a visit to the chinese restaurant (as a Methodist minister he took great delight in saying that he was moving on to the Opium Den - it's still there).

When, as a fresher at university, I was given a full grant (anyone remember those?), I discovered that at the end of my first year I had spent £300 on sheet music! Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart etc - all the usual suspects. Duck, Son & Pinker had been the beneficiaries.

I never lost the bug, so generally, come the summer holiday and term over, I hotfoot it to Oxford and carry on where I left off, sitting on the floor, making my way through piano music from A-Z. Unfortunately that soon spread to Organ Music and latterly, in view of increased duties accompanying, to Chamber Music too.

I don't think I've bought any sheet music over the internet, so with the temptation of it being just a mouse-click away from you Solari, you have my deepest sympathy - but I quite understand!

I believe that the next gig is Easter Sunday 5-7pm, so possibly not the most convenient for people with busy family / social lives. I've also been told that the pub are planning a mini festival for the day. They've done this before and it's basically various local bands performing throughout the day. All is subject to change though, we seem incapable of doing a gig without at least 3 changes of date as drummer / bass player / pianist etc work out whether they can make it. This one's already changed once, pianist can't do it due to family commitments, but guitarist can so we should be able to manage.

Jolly good idea.

Why has the concept of harmonic minor scales simply being the relative minor with a raised 7th been so difficult up until now?! It's suddenly just clicked!

I certainly do! and just to top it all off today, I was asked which degree of the scale would be raised in a piece in the minor key in music class-I wouldn't have had a clue otherwise!
