I have horrible memories of my AS-level French mock oral, where I sat down with the sheet of info that I was meant to be preparing with in the preparation room... it was a tourist leaflet about Aberystwyth. I panicked because I had no idea how to pronounce Aberystwyth. The French wouldn't have been a problem, but Aberystywyth really threw me.

I sat down with my French teacher for the mock exam, stuttered a few words and burst into tears rolleyes.gif

I got an A in AS French and dropped the subject laugh.gif

laugh.gif it can't have been that bad then, you must have done really rather well! biggrin.gif

Luckily I didn't get any complicated place name things for the real exam laugh.gif

laugh.gif What pronounciation did you decide on for Aberystwyth? It's not very obvious unless you know how it's said or know how Welsh names work, so I'm sure other people would have been thrown by it as well. smile.gif

One of my GCSE geography exams had something about Reading in it, and I discovered how the name was pronounced when I was talking to my teacher about the question afterwards. blush.gif

I can't remember.... I just know that the letters went round and round in my head and I worried so much that I cried. I think my teacher let me do the mock on another day where I got another preparation sheet laugh.gif

Of course, had it been Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, you'd have been forgiven all histrionics! biggrin.gif

And not the least unlucky, too! laugh.gif

I just hit one of the other sound buttons on my clavinova while trying to hit the RH chord in bar 11 of Chopin Op.28 No.7 - the sound changed to a loud organ thing and I cr@pped myself, almost falling off my chair! ohmy.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif I don't have a clavinova, but I've done this before trying to change the metronome-I was only slightly increasing it so it wasn't enough to be noticeable that it hadn't changed, apparently I'd set it to organ-I just about died! laugh.gif

You either need stabilisers for your chairs or some sort of gyroscope to keep you the right way up!

My Clavinova often seems randomly to switch from 'piano' to 'vibes'! I run through the previous few notes to see whether or not my fingers accidentally caught the button in question but to no avail. Spooky! ph34r.gif unsure.gif

I've just noticed that both the number of my posts to date and the number of pages of this thread have a Highest Common Factor (Greatest Common Divisor) of 111; a factor of 666 no less! ohmy.gif

Well, it could have been worse - it could have been in public! Exactly that happened to a pianist colleague who was in the middle of playing the slow first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata in our last recital. blush.gif

Watching snooker makes me far too nervous sad.gif

Why? unsure.gif
Babybird2
Because it's so tense... it feels like watching penalties over and over again blush.gif

And I really want Graeme Dott to win laugh.gif

I don't like watching penalites. ill.gif I also don't like the last 10 minutes of matches because I know what we're like at conceeding late goal. sad.gif

I'm the same. I spend my time hiding between cushions and peeking out at crucial moments blush.gif

We need to have a 3 goal lead going in to the last 10 minutes for me to have any confidence. mellow.gif I used to be comfortable with a 2 goal lead - until Coventry. rolleyes.gif sad.gif

First post from my new mobile phone - I hope it works!
Flossie
I don't think I want to. mellow.gif That was just a spoof result though - we don't regularly conceed 3 goals in the last 10 minutes. smile.gif Sadly, we do conceed 2 goals in the last 10 minutes all too regularly. sad.gif

I can't decide which processor I want. unsure.gif To add to the confusion the hard drive I'd prefer (7200 rpm rather than 5400) is only available with the more expensive processor and I can't decide if it's worth the extra money. wacko.gif Also not sure if I want a backlit keyboard or not. huh.gif
Babybird2
I've managed to live without a backlit keyboard so far laugh.gif
Flossie
I've never had one, so I don't know how much difference it would make, but it might be helpful for the times our cooker trips the electricity and turns all the lights out. It's an extra £30 though. unsure.gif
Babybird2
But surely you can just turn the electricity back on within a few minutes? tongue.gif

Hmm. It's not that simple when it's dark. It involves balancing on my toes on the edge of stair about 3/4 way up the stair case with one foot (the other foot can't go on the step because I can't reach if it does, as I'm off centre compared to the switch), lifting the cover of the electrics box and holding it open, positioning a knitting needle below the switch I need to flick, and then jumping and hoping that I a) manage to flick the switch up with the point of the knitting needle and b) don't fall down the stairs. wacko.gif

What a ridiculous place for the electricity box blink.gif

I know. wacko.gif It's managable if it's light because you can at least see what you're doing. If it's dark I tend to sit in my room and wait for someone taller, but it does mean that I can't see to do anything. mellow.gif

Maybe you should invest in a torch rather than the backlit keyboard laugh.gif

Can't hold torch plus knitting needle plus the cover from the electrics box (which needs be held open). I tried once and dropped everything and then missed my footing when I landed. It hurt. sad.gif
Babybird2
But you can have the torch in your room, so you have light until someone else sorts the electrics out laugh.gif

*adds new torch to shopping list* My torch currently lives next to the cooker so that there's one available when the cooker trips everything - seems a bit mean to reclaim it when the other's use it.

I'm now trying to work out whether I want Dell's extended warranty and accidental cover, or whether I want the one year gaurantee and separate laptop insurrance. unsure.gif
Babybird2
Extended warranty is probably more useful unsure.gif

Extended warranty is probably more useful unsure.gif

That's kind of what I'm thinking, but it doesn't cover theft. But then the insurance policies I've read which cover theft and accidental damage don't seem to cover problems with the actual computer outside of the manufacturers warranty period. unsure.gif It's confusing... wacko.gif
Babybird2
Does your contents insurance cover theft/accidental damage for your laptop though?

Don't have any. blush.gif All my expensive things (i.e. instruments, old laptop) are insured via specialist insurance. Last time I looked at contents insurance it was really expensive because i was living in uni accommodation. I'll have another look. smile.gif
