If you have sunny weather the way we do in London.. yes, if you stick it in the sunshine enough to thaw out and cook it immediately afterwards. (any longer and you run the risk of food poisoning)

Some of the scenes in this week's Dr Who finale were filmed inside (and on the roof of) the Brangwyn Hall in Swansea!

Whilst at the University there I used to attend the Wednesday evening Organ Recitals. I think the first one I went to was given by Ernst Erich Stender, organist at the Marienkirche in Luebeck (Dietrich Buxtehude's old post). He played the Prelude & Fugue on BACH by Liszt and Mendelssohn's Organ Sonata No.3 in A, amongst other things.

Subsequently I saw John Lill perform there (not on the organ though!), Alfred Brendel and Segovia!

Thanks, Fran. It's just a bit frustrating. In the past, results from the same centre have appeared on the same day. How are you?

That does sound very frustrating indeed! Maybe it's just a temporary glitch or something? I'm fine thank you! How are you, apart from the obvious lack of results??

I have been this hungover only once before in my life. I don't know why drinking on an empty stomach seemed like a good idea to me, nor do I have any idea exactly why it was so essential to not miss the concert afterparty I went to. I have a 9:15 seminar, and at the moment I'm too busy concentrating on not throwing up to even brush my hair, let alone intelligently discuss scientific advances in early modern women's literature.

Those who went to Dyrham will appreciate this...

I ended up falling off my piano stool last night, crashing to the floor after a mischievous maybug somehow managed to get into the house and whizz around my head! I was in a panic as I thought it was a hornet!

I'm sure it was hilarious at the time but my back aches a bit now! :S

Even worse, I had to sleep in another bedroom as I couldn't find the damned thing after I'd run to get some flyspray, a pint glass, and some card (I was going to do whatever was easiest to get rid of it).

I'll be bug-hunting tonight... rolleyes.gif

Hope that you have recovered, I can associate with this, having had a spider drop on to my piano keyboard yesterday whilst playing to my daughter. I have a phobia for spiders, luckily I didn't fall off my stool but it didn't do very much for my performance. Daughter came to investigate as I scream and run away, only for the blighter to have disappeared down under the keys and probably in the piano somewhere! Now everytime I go on the piano I am worried it is going to come back out.

Of course it could have been that it thought what is that lovely sound, I ought to go and investigate lol

My father went out to Sierra Leone, West Africa, as part of the Methodist Missionary Association. Eventually my mother joined him out there. She says she'll never forget the sound as a large 'bird-eating' spider dropped off the wall onto a metal radiator in their living-room. Of course she screamed and one of the house domestics turned up, trying to coax it out from the back of the radiator, on his hands and knees with a broom-handle!

I'm not sure that a pint-glass and piece of card would have been sufficient! biggrin.gif

It's annoying that these things are so quiet - I don't want to fumigate the house with flyspray, and I don't really want to kill it, as they're harmless (and an important part of the food chain). Hopefully it'll show up later on when I get home.

Saturday 3rd July 2010, ~4.45pm BST. Things you can't believe you've said out loud, #487.

"Diego Maradona looks more attractive now than he ever has"

blush.gif

Fortunately my husband not only understood that this was a comment on relative attractiveness, not absolute attractiveness (with the greatest of respect, I'd not put Mr. Maradona up there with, for example, Robert Redford [well, Robert Redford a few years back wink.gif]). He was also able to explain this abberrant statement in full:

1) It's the beard - apparently the beard-with-white-in can not be resisted
2) It's the beard and the suit - the beard adds a bit of scruffiness, and apparently women are also unable to resist a slightly scruffy bloke in a good suit
3) It's the lack of drugs - the fact he no longer looks completely insane / out of his face would move anyone up the attractiveness chart
4) It's the loss of weight - he may not be the slenderest or fittest, but again from where he was not so long ago he could only improve!
