Something MT said on the Cheerful thread made me think of a phrase that one of my relatives used to use "It's being so miserable that keeps me happy" which I was always told was a catchphrase on the radio/TV aeons ago. So I did a search for who said it, and Google asked me - "did I mean its" ohmy.gif blink.gif wacko.gif

Have you noticed on youtube when you look for a video, the little box comes up predicting what you might be typing, and its suggestions are always misspelled? It's upsetting!

When I first mentioned youtube in an email, without thinking I typed, 'U-tube'. Maybe that was more appropriate? rolleyes.gif

I'm feeling narked...my grandma offered to alter my most favouritest bestest crinkle vest because the straps were too long, which was really kind of her, BUT SHE IRONED AND STARCHED ALL THE CRINKLES OUT!

I think it was all a plan to make me look less scruffy.... ph34r.gif

Just wash out the starch and let the vest dry scrunched up. With any luck, it will be all crinkly again. I expect your Gran thought you hadn't ironed it!

Walking down the corridor of the Mathematics Department today, none of the staff were in their usual rooms. Actually, following a couple of staff leavers at the end of the summer it's been "All change!" in my old department, with all staff being allocated new rooms. It was most disconcerting.

The probablity that everyone is in the wrong place has a name, 'derangements' (also known as 'subfactorials', but that doesn't sound as good!). So for example, it's possible to calculate the probability that when the stand-in postman walks down your road no letter is put through the correct letter-box! biggrin.gif

Our entire school has completely changed round-maths is in history, science is where music used to be, etc etc! It's so confusing, and possibly the first year ever that the year 11's have been just as lost and confuzzled as the year 7's!

Really sorry to read that, Lucky, but my wife (a specialist TB nurse) assures you that it is treatable, and no longer the big threat of olden days.

Your friend may be feeling guilty as well, although it's actually quite hard to pass on, and no fault should be assigned.

For a slightly different literary take on dying of TB, try the novel by the Australian author Dymphna Cusack "Say No to Death."

This is 1940s TB (the novel was published in the early 1950s). It is romantic in a lot of respects but...
One of the "cures" at the time was to forbid the patients to speak. Can you imagine knowing your dying and being forbidden to talk to anyone...

QUOTE
In 1797 a man wrote and published the lyrics to this nursery rhyme. The origins were based on the man having five children - two boys and three girls. There were constant arguments as the boys wanted to play soldiers and the girls wanted to play house! If the girls wanted to get rid of their brothers they would sometimes pretend to start a game of 'tea party' and Polly would put the toy kettle on - as soon as the boys left Sukey (or Susan) would take it off again! Their father was so amused by this ploy that he set it to words and added the music which is still played today

Because they can hear other soundwaves that we can't, and that coupled with inexplicable loud noise is enough to seriously distress some dogs. You can get plug in adapters from some vets that release a calming chemical to help your dog, or if it's really bad, I've had dogs in the past who need to be sedated during a thunder storm or fireworks display... *hugs* to your pooch! Hope you manage to get some teaching done.
