Why do some people think that "i don't like it therefore nobody in the world can or should like it and it should be banned/ changed etc", or " i can't do it therefore it can't possibly be worth doing by anyone" is a valid argument. mad.gif

I hear it so many times, in many different forms and from different people and it really, really annoys me!

Can anyone recall the name of a film in the cinemas in the past year...I think it was about an orchestra in Eastern Europe who form underground/against a regime?? In the main cinemas...I can only remember a trailer. I think the title might have been one word.

That's not a very good example, because there should be a fence or bank or something to stop the cows getting round the edge (which they might be able to do on the nearside of the photo). wacko.gif

wacko.gif .... and my dog is so frightened of cattle grids that he 'hides' in the front footwell of the car and shakes..... and when I walk him, tried to refuse to walk back towards them and I have to be quite firm. Lovely place to wlak dogs tho- and convenient- my daughter's school is in the grounds of an estate and there are no livestock on the land at themoment. Do I be firm and terrify the dog in an effort to overcome his fear or just not bother?
It is so convenient.... I can walk the dog before I collect her from school!

Is there no route round the side of the cattle grid for pedestrians? Often there's a kissing gate or similar to allow people to pass but not cattle. It's not uncommon for dogs to dislike cattle grids, particularly if a paw has slipped off a rail in the past and jolted the shoulder or bumped the belly onto the rail.

I certainly wouldn't force the dog when he is so frightened. Is he small enough to be carried over the grid? Does he love sticks? Maybe a stick thrown over the grid would encourage him to forget his fear.

My younger daughter is sleeping at a friend's house tonight. Sleep-overs are not very common in France and it's been a couple of years since she last did that.

It's been so quiet tonight - no arguments about what time bedtime is, about who is having a shower first.

No- no route around the grid- he is frightened when the car went over it! He is fairly large too! Today I took him out for a walk and the sound of the car splashing through puddles freaked him out- he was trying to get in the driver's footwell- not very safe!
I have to drive to most places to walk the dog as we live on a main road. There is a lane to walk him but he refuses that way as he is frightened of the farm dogs at the bottom of the lane (I am frightened of them too!)

Ahh. Did you know that Arisaig in Scotland is mainland Britain's most westerly main line railway station; not Penzance as you might expect? And that Perth, in north east Scotland is as far west as Exeter!

Does that also mean that acronyms will be preserved in all-capitals now? The altered capitalization in all the diploma related thread titles really used to bother me... I'm tempted to try it out, but since we can't delete threads I'm afraid I would be "punished" ph34r.gif
