So much joy and rejoicing in the tonedeaf house tonight! So funny to see my perfectionist daughter (who complains that she is 'useless' when she can't get her Grade 5 piano pieces perfect within a fortnight) so pleased with herself that she can get her head joint to make an identifiable noise 1 time in 3!

She has taken it to bed with her - maybe out of love - maybe out of fear that I will start late night tootling.

As if I would ...

I think you need a flute.

Seriously - you're always doing down your ability when you post on here, but I honestly think that you are musical but haven't found your instrument and have had bad past experiences which have put you off. The flute seems to have attracted you and seems to be asking to be played. You've got a reasonable sound out of the flute without having had any lessons, and it can take people a couple of months of lessons to get that far...

Don't be put off by the flute being your daughter's 'thing'. She's got other instruments as well (particularly her violin which I think is unique to her in your household). If she wants to play the flute then your learning won't put her off - and if it does then she clearly isn't really that enamoured with the flute in the first place.

Today, I got the tube from Leytonstone to Stratford, bought a one way ticket. The cost? 4 GBP!

I thought you could use Visa, credit cards and cash. Am I wrong?

Even if I am wrong it won't matter as I use my Visa card to pay for just about everything!

Hopefully no more leaking toner to deal with at work today.....

Two of my dogs were put to sleep yesterday to end their suffering. They were brother and sister and had never spent a moment apart in nearly 14 years so it was a blessing they both reached peace side by side. I hand-raised them from the day they were born when their Mum was ill and we were all devoted to each other.


I miss them so much. My heart is in pieces. My best and loyal friends.

Awwww, lottie, deepest sympathy, it's so sad when beloved friends have to leave. They can never be replaced (yes, we had a cat come to live with us to fill the cat-shaped hole in our lives, but she was never going to be a replacement for the previous cat, because they will never be exactly the same, no matter what). And you never forget them

When sitting at the computer, never have your mobile 'phone near the mouse. Trying to say "Hello" into the mouse gets no response whatsoever.....

Likewise, always keep the phone well out of reach when ironing, especially after a glass or two.

I read that with more than a tear in my eye - and me a hard hearted old soldier. Accept my sympathy and hugs.

Thank you all for your kind words on the loss of my precious dogs.

I know many people have no interest in dogs and may not understand the way some of us become so deeply attached to our animals but each to his own and I respect the individual choices people make.

But for me my animals are part of my family (though never 'little people'... they are animals) and the loss of them is hard to bear. My husband and I are deeply grieving and their passing is very painful.

But we have 14 years of wonderful memories to treasure and our remaining four dogs are bringing us much joy still.

Dogs are not little people, but they fill a space in our hearts that no human can. We always had dogs at home; they were part of the family and went with us almost everywhere. We don't have a dog now as Mrs Swell Box is not too keen, but our daugter would love one, as would I. We are working on it!

Time will heal, but your loss is very real, and should not be underestimated by anyone.

If you didn't need to get back after the playday you'd have been spending that night here.

you'd be entered as a guest on sbhoa's form, they're supposed to be filled in on 27th March
