the second is a canary whic my father named it 'polly'

now, still alive!! his sound is really amazing!

the third is a golden retriever!!!! my mother's friend gave it to our family as a christmas present!!!!!
really happy that time and i named it noelle because it's a christmas present and my mother's friend gave it exactly one day after christmas (26th of december 2005)

I have two cats, Plato and Gandalf.

I thought cats were philosophical creatures but could have a twist, so originally wanted to call them Plato and Machiavelli (believe it or not if you were a mouse machiavelli wuld suit Gandalf well). My husband wanted to call them Gandalf and Frodo.

When the kittens arrived it was obvious Gandalf would be called Gandalf, he is the greyer tabby of the two and has a white beard tummy and socks. Plato well, he really is the philisophical one. Favourite seat the study chair or the study desk.

When the cat dies possible names for new cats according to matthew: Frodo, according to Alex: theyy've got to be ginger toms called Ginger and Marmalade, according to me: Pushkin.

Hubby is not a dog person. but I've always fancied owning a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and calling it Fairfax, well any name of a prominant roundhead really!
Maizie
Cats...
Tigger came with that name.
Slinky came with the name Sandy, but it doesn't suit her - she's not sand-coloured, for a start! She is very small and slender, so she is now Slinky Sandy, usually just called Slink. But I have to remember that on all her paperwork from the rescue, and hence her insurance cover, and hence the registration at my vets, she is Sandy!!

Rats...
Dumdum - came with this name
Gnawra and Klinger - my husband named these two before Imet them. Ratty-behaviour names, but also Klinger after M*A*S*H
Schrodinger - my first chosen rat name - as in Schrodinger's Cat, but instead Shrodinger Rat!
Woodward and Bernstein - the Washington Post journalists (my husband has read a lot about Watergate and introduced me to the subject)
Shelley and Maggie - a blonde and a brunette, after the characters in Northern Exposure
Haldeman, Erlichman, Liddy, Hunt, Mitchell, Magruder and Stans - Watergate conspiritors and/or members of Nixon administration - some of the 'President's Men'.
Pepper - came with that name.
Hope and Glory - The two rats were found abandoned in a park. I was going to call them Lost and Found but I thought that would be a bit sad for poor little Lost. Hope and Glory was the next pairing that came to mind. Glory was a really bright ginger ("silver-fawn" to be correct) so she was my Glorious Glowing Glory-bug!
Nixon and Kissinger - We knew we'd have a Nixon one day! These two rats are my first to come from a breeder so as they were 'special' in that regard we gave them the special names.

Incidentally, only Woodward, Bernstein, Haldeman and Erlichman were the only boys. Shelly and Maggie were girls and got girls names, but then once we had H&E I realised that future rats could be named after men, even if they were females... biggrin.gif
Miss Ross
When I was given my rabbit my parents were told that she was definitely a girl. We named her Hazel as she had the most beautiful hazel tint to her eyes. A few weeks later and she had been taught to repspond to hername - she'd come running across the garden if you called her. Then we took her to the vet and found out she was actually a 'he'. blink.gif We considered keeping the name but decided to change it to Hamish (it sounds slightly similar to Hazel), and it suits him really well! Almost 6 years later, he's still alive and kicking and probably very grateful that the vet was more knowledgeable than us!

As for our dog...Well, it took us ages to choose a name for him. I liked Paddy and Brodie, and my parents liked Brodie and Scruffy. We decided on Brodie smile.gif. There's a place not too far from here called Brodie, and most people presume that's where we got him from although it isn't...

And Harry just looked like a Harry! biggrin.gif

The Old Lady
Scamper was my ginger tom cat. Very skittish as a tiny kitten and scampered everywhere, hence the name. He grew to be about 18lbs at his finest. ohmy.gif All muscle, not fat at all. He died 2 years ago ath the age of 18, and weighed around 7lbs, he had thyroid problems. sad.gif
If I had a new ginger tom, I would call him Hamish, after "The Lighthouse Keepers' Cat", from the books.
If I had 2 black labradors, I would call them Boddington and Murphy. tongue.gif
Bev.

A black labrador called Duke.
Another rabbit called Moses (we found him in the rushes).
A goldfish called Billy.
Three cats Kayleigh, Tommy, Lisa.
Now got a tank full of tropical fish (as yet un-named).

I seem to have become 'Uncle Phil' to Amy's rats Nacho and Tequila. They're quite friendly actually.
Pepsii-Piano
I have a border collie called Blue...

Named because she is a blue dog, like blue merle but without the merle bit.

It is really grey, but the kennel club call it blue, so she got called 'Blue'!

It is nice, and short and snappy, too.

Her kennel club name is Tosari Candlelight, which I think is beautiful...

I had a house rabbit called "Rex" - not sure why he ended up being called Rex, but the name seemed to suit him! He was very tame and friendly - people were amazed to see a rabbit living in the house. Unfortunately he died back in the summer - lived for 8 and a half years which is not bad going for a rabbit!

A photo of him - he was a Tan rabbit, not a breed you see often. Click to see full size image.

Hamish is a house rabbit during the winter. I quite often find him curled up with Brodie infront of the fire smile.gif.

My first ever cat as a child was Sandy.. a big ginger tom;

A gerbil called Gerald because he reminded me of the greengrocer round the corner, of the same name!

Then a brother and sister called Midge ( from the otter in Ring of Bright Water) and Jacey (They were born at Easter so JC became Jacey)

Then another brother and sister called Bertie and Jess ( after my maternal grandparents!!)

Then I took in Bertie and Jess's sister (Pussy Cat) when they were four months old. (My sister had her first, but couldn't keep her). Pussy Cat is the tortoiseshell who I lost in June. She was 16 sad.gif

I now have Charlie, a big black cat who's 11!
SuzyMac
Current pair of cats are Merry and Pippin (because they would have seven breakfasts a day if they thought they could). Originally named Madelaine and Mathilda which we just couldn't keep.

They replaced Aslan (giant amongst felines), Cuddles (not the cuddliest) and Hangover (only female in the litter of brandy, whisky...).

I want an old English sheepdog called Gandalf.
Car Expert
My cat's called Simba because he's got the same colour fur as the character from The Lion King biggrin.gif

Do you want to adaopt my cat as your Ganalf in the meantime, virtually of course as I'd miss him terribly if he wasn't around.

One of my dogs is called Lucy, sometimes Lulu...cos she makes me want to shout...when she chews a big hole in my sofa..... sad.gif (sorry, very bad joke smile.gif true about the sofa though)

I have a chocolate lab called Rosie ( not very original), who's nearly 2, and a 13-year-old black cat called Klio (named after an asteroid or something - she used to be the university's atsronomy cat that lived in the telescope dome, but we had to have her because they couldn't get planning permission for a catflap in the new building thats being built laugh.gif).

I was going to put on a pic, but couldn't work it out. How do you put on pics from your hard drive (rather than the net)?
LooneyTunes
11 year old beautiful tortie and white called Sasha Chat (as in the French) - also answers to Sushi Chat. smile.gif She's a Taurean - like me - but unlike me actually manages to live out her life of luxury (I only dream.....)

Our tortie cat is called Rosie too ! named by the rescue people I think. I sometimes wonder if it's because her fur is the colour of rosewood (probably not!)
BachPensioner
Brother and sister cats - called after trees, Linden and Rowan - he was killed aged two but Rowan is still going strong after 18 years

Clem - who had been called Buffy but was renamed because her 'husband' was Winston (who had a very high opinion of himself and expected to be adored by all)

All black Chancer survived many an adventure (being thrown out of a car on the M8; rescued by Austrailians in a camper van but could not take him back to Australia; had three more homes before crawling to me with a bad bite and very sick) but he still took his life in his paws on a daily basis - died this year aged 16

Black Lab Moses - after one that was found in the rushes

Miniature dash hound called Jinja after a town in Uganda

Coffee - the chocolate coloured terrier

Sam - the white half lab

Bliss - the springer spaniel and current incumbent - because she does look so blissful when chasing rabbits.

Susie
The hamster's called Fingal (musical daughter named him), but he also answers to Fur.

The 2 goldfish are Rosie and Bubbles - a bit obvious really. biggrin.gif
Clari Nicki1
Well...
We have dog called Beano... not too sure why, but we acquired him from someone who was moving abroad so it's not our fault. My friend thinks he should be called Basil Brush as he looks a bit like him... just larger... He is a Nova Scotia Dock Tolling Retriever (honest.....) Bit like a red retriever.

Then we have a kitten who was feral... there were 3 tiny kittens in our garden and when we returned from hols in May, one was dead and one disappeared so we captured the last one... whom my daughter named Covy... short for Shostacovich... we were playing something by him at wind band. Perhaps not a terribly suitable name for a black female cat.

Then we have a rabbit named Becky... but it's a male and a guinea pig whose name we have forgotten.....
my_broken_strings

So many people have cats!!!!

My dogs have one official name and then lots of secondary names according to what they're doing or just because we're all soppy and love them.... wub.gif

Morgan - named after the speedy car and speedy horse (she was a whippet). Sadly she died last month of old age sad.gif

Zinzin - french for crazy. Morgan's daughter. She was hand reared because Morgan was ill and she was a real fighter and full of zing so we thought Zinzin was appropriate. She's also called 'Zinderbin', 'Stinky' (the family name), 'Zinny' and 'Hey you!'

Phoenix - he nearly died as a baby and then rose like the bird - also hand-reared. Morgans son and Zinzin's brother. Also known as Pheender, Bean, Stinky, Wee Man and Snowball.

Jayjay. I like my dogs to have two syllable names because it catches their attention quicker than a single. So she started as Jay but it ended up doubled. Also known as The Supermodel, Fatty and Stinky. (yeeees all my dogs answer to 'Stinky' laugh.gif )

Milly. Hubby's working labrador. Answers to Milly-willy-willy-willy-woo-woo.. well it makes her tail wag a lot laugh.gif Also anwers to 'Mildred' on a Sunday (and Stinky), Fartypants and Moo.

Zoomie - well he's always doing the 'zoomies' and speeding about all over the place so the name suited him very well tongue.gif Also answers to Zoomster, Zoomzie-woo, Stinky and Zmzmzmzmzmzm....

Lottie - the baby of the family and cute as a button and knows it. Named after Carlotta Mia from Phantom of the Opera (not my choice) so I pretend she's called Charlotte - and yes!.. it's my username too wink.gif . Also anwers to Lottie-bottie-boo-boo, Stinky and ######-ey blink.gif

From left to right Jayjay, Milly Phoenix, Zoomie, Zinzin and Lottie;

Nice pic, StuMac.

I used to have a hamster called Nelson. He had one red eye and one black one, hence the name. That said, my first choice of name was Wotan, but it got changed to Nelson when my sister asked what sort of name Wotan was for a hamster laugh.gif

His cage is still sitting there empty, so I suppose I ought to either sell it or acquire another hamster.

Ive not had a dog myself, but in-laws Border Terrier was 'Watson' usually modified to Wattie.
He had an element of Sherlock Holmes Dr Watson in him.

There's a lovely Westie who walks around here called Monroe...I think thats very appropriate.

We have 9 (I think) fish, none of which have names. I had a slightly interesting conversation with my conductor who told me I whould give my fish names, otherwise they'll get depressed and that he should know, since he used to be one blink.gif

My violin teacher has three spaniels called Bronski (Brod), Schubert (Schooee), and Paddy, who are loverly though biggrin.gif Schubert sometimes just sits there and whines to himself which is fairly amusing... and Bronski often lays on his back and waves his legs in the air while I'm playing rolleyes.gif tongue.gif

Have three cats:

Huge and sassy tom named Whitney Roo (long haired black and white tuxedo. HUGE!) He's 4.

Whitney's son, Mister P**phyhead. He's half black and white and half Siamese on both sides of his bloodlines. He looks like a long haired Jack Russell terrier, with a chocolate brown "hate" that goes over his eye and a deep chocolate brown long bushy tail. He has a cream colored saddle, insists on sleeping on my chest and watching me online by crawling under my shirt, snuggling close, and popping his head out the neck of my t-shirt. He's 3.

Pita, is tiny, the size of five month old kitten. She is a gray tabby, short haired, and 14.

They are sooo cute.

We have a dog called Molly, she was named when we got her and thought it went well with our other dog who was called Rosie.

Our first two Budgies were called Angel and Bluebell. Angel was a little devil, she died a couple of months ago after a trip to the Vet, Bluebell died shortly after we got them and must have been sick without us realising it.

We now have two new Budgies Star and Jazz, theya re quite tame and will sit on your finger, the laptop or anywhere so long as they can be together. The girls named them, it's obvious which one belongs to which.

Our current Hamster is Maizie, my daughter named her after her other one Ruby died of old age.

We are a dog family really but are very fond of our neighbours cats. Recently we named a young cat who has adopted our elderly neighbours, it's all black so we called it Luicky (not sure of it's ###).

Tortoishell cat - very beautiful and rather aloof- "Lucie" (Lucy Snow - Villette, I think)
Ginger tom - very cuddly - 'Bingley" (Pride and Prejudice)
Ginger and white tom (a rescue job) _ "Dorian" (Dorian Gray) and to remember "Florian", another ginger and white tom we lost last January.
Grey tabby with some ginger and white - "Chloë" - no particular reason for that name. She's a half grow kitten I found abandoned at school at the end of last term.
Large white dog - another rescue, was originally called "Martha" but we renamed her "Sylvo"
Small terrier-like mongrel, brown and white who belonged to my father. Dad got him from the RSPCA and called him Tommy (war memories?)

Our much loved and now laid to rest Pyreneen mountain dog was called Balou (Kipling)

Previous cats have been called Tesoro, Amenti, Tarquin, Sophie, Fransisque, Justin, Jusitine.
Previous dogs Patsy, Penny, Victor, Holly.
A canary was Piccolo and all our budgies have been named after Popes. (Don't ask me why!)
A rabbit was Valentine, a mouse Thimble.

There have been many others but I have to go and do some real work ......

We have three cats - the eldest is Tom (now 12) and he had a brother called Jerry (sadly he was knocked down outside our house) - he was named by my then 5 yearr old daughter. Then we got Phoebe (just liked the name) and she had seven beautiful kittens and we kept one - Kit-Kat - now called Kitty, etc.

Her brothers and sisters all looked very similar so we called them by their appearance -
Bruiser - the biggest in the litter
Stumpy, his brother, as he had a little blob on the end of his tail
Mozart, named by my friend's daughter who had him when he was 8 weeks old
Barbie, as she had a 'bar' across her white tummy
Paddy, as she had all black foot pads
Poppy - because she was the smallest little girl.

Bruiser (now named Septimus) and Stumpy (now named Maximus) still live in the village, as does Mozart, who visits us from time to time. Sadly , Poppy and Rosie were knocked down (although Poppy did have 4 kittens of her own) and we know nothing about Barbie except that she lives in our nearest town.
