I had a phonecall this morning about the fact I offer private A Level Music tuition. This is all well and good, but she asked me if I could enter her daughter for A Level Music with Edexcel as a private candidate... I thought you could only do this with GCSE's? I said I would certainly find out, but looking at the Edexcel website I can't find anything, and their email server seems to be down!

Does anyone on the forums know if this can happen, if a teacher can take a private pupil all the way through their A Level Music preperation and enter them? Because it seems a tad strange to me, I would have thought it was a school/college based thing because they need to perform in front of their peers (and that's only one reason).

Any advice appreciated!

Err, well I'm not sure about this!!
Im sure there is someway around it.
Maybe you can teach her, but get in touch with a local school in the area who could enter her as part of their sixth form or soemthing?

Im sorry I don't have any valuable advice!

I think you can teach her and then enter her as an external candidate through school.

You have to find an establishment willing to take them as an external candidate, not always easy as course work and recitals have to be verified. Even with correspondance courses for GCSE/A levels it is the candidates job to find a place to sit the examination. Do you know any local secondary school music teachers who may help out?

I am sure that CYM - Centre for Young Musicians - enter students externally for GCSE & A level exams have a look at their website and contact via email (they are closed on Mondays) they may be able to help you.
