Can anyone recommend albums / sheet music of really classy piano arrangements/transcriptions of, eg, Gershwin and similar standards, please?
Plenty of albums exist around AB grade 6 with the basic stuff and, sure, one can improvise some nice ornaments. But it might speed up improvisation to study a few existing pianist/arrangers' work (as well as listening and watching where possible).
I appreciate it's not strictly jazz but this is about the nearest forum I can find.
Many thanks for help.
Regards,
Rhapsodin.

Hi Rhapsodin,
just saw your post - I can recommend the following (some are beyond Grade 8 though)
- Artist Transcriptions Series (various artists)
- The Artistry of Bill Evans (2 volumes)(Published by Warner Bros.)
- The Artistry of George Shearing (1 volume)(Warner Bros.)
- George Gershwin - at the Piano (his original arrangements I believe)
- The Johnny Mandel songbook (excellent piano arrangements by the composer)
- Some small albums of Bill Evans transcriptions (Waltz for Debby, Turn Out The Stars etc.) - not sure who the publisher is
hope this helps

D*mn the internet, this is my third attempt to post a thank you!
cbpiano,
Thanks for responding and I've started to look some of these up. Musicroom lists the titles in most of its albums.
Meanwhile I happened upon the early arrangements of Ralph Rainger and the Francis & Day Special Piano arrangements albums. Enlightenment and headaches!
Cheers,
Rhapsodin.
Now let's press "add reply" and see if it'll oblige this time....
