Website

The PM lines have now opened for Category 18: Favourite Recording. Please PM me with up to ten votes, as to who you think has produced the best recording(s). Remember to rank your nominees if you're voting for more than one person; 1 being the highest and 10 being the lowest, so I know how many points to give them. The person for whom you give 1st place to will get 10 points, regardless of how many other people you vote for. Remember you cannot vote for yourself.

In previous years, we've had two categories: Favourite Recording and Favourite Composition. Due to the lack of compositions on the site at present, there is only one category now, so compositions do count as recordings.

I will try and publish the league table as often as I can (obviously this will depend on how many votes I receive before the previous update) in this thread to give everyone an idea who is winning and whereabouts they are in the table.

excl.gif If you have less than 50 posts and want to vote, please sign up in this thread first (unless you have signed up already). It's no disrespect to those who have very few posts... it's only for a security reason due to the problems that were had with the previous category. The final decision is mine whether I allow your votes to be included or not, but if you're a genuine poster, then the likely decision is that your votes will be likely to be included.

The PM lines will close on Sunday 21st October at 2130 BST, which is when I will announce the winner of the category and post the final league table after a weeks worth of voting.

I haven't listened to many of the recordings but I just wanted to say that La Chopiniste's " Wedding Day in Troldhagen" is absolutely amazing!
PianoSecrets-x
Do these recordings have to be from the forums recording site, or can they be off a members Youtube account?

I agree totally. I cannot see anything else beating that recording. It is of professional quality. There are some more good ones in the mix but that one is the winner for me.

Ou est le recordings website?
Manek
How do we judge the recordings??

Is it the playing on the recording, or the quality/production of the recordings?

Oh, and how do I submit mine for the critical ear of the discerning forumite??

I suppose there's no reason why YouTube recordings cannot be included. However, if you do intend to vote for something outside the recordings website, please provide a link when PMing me your votes so I can look at it and provide that link when publishing the league table.

Send it to YAP's username at yahoo dot co dot uk. Just to confirm, you are free to submit recordings during this week (providing it's OK with YAP smile.gif).

I can also link to Youtube recordings off the forum recordings site, so if you have a Youtube recording you think others might want to know about, send me a link.

Also, this way I can also skirt cunningly around copyright issues - linking to another site which contains something I couldn't host the UK without liability for MPCS fees is absolutely fine smile.gif.
Manek
YAP, could you possibly link this page from the recordings site, then??

And still nobody's answered my question about what we're judging these recordings on - is the player or the producer/engineer who's coming under scrutiny?

Or should I just vote for my mates?? wink.gif

I'm judging the recordings on the quality of the playing rather than the recording. smile.gif
PianoSecrets-x
I have two pieces on youtube, would you be able to add them to the site YAP?

Le Moulin

La Dispute

I foresaw this problem - very few of the folk who vote or are voted for in these awards have made recordings of their playing available, either through YouTube or the forum recordings site.

On the other hand, a 'Favourite Cake Picture from CISD' award would probably have some mileage wink.gif.

Unfortunately the recordings aren't all crystal clear - which makes it difficult. I'm trying to stay as objective as possible......
