wow that sounds fantastic! so what is flutewise - how do you become a member/what do you do (apart from play with james galway! ohmy.gif biggrin.gif )?
Bagpuss
When you go, take a belated birthday card for the Great Man - he will be 65 on the 8th December (I know cos I share his birthday, although considerably younger!!!). He's a lovely, lovely man so ENJOY!
tamsin
I was given some info for it at some point, but it all seemed a bit distant for me to take part in any of their events~ so I didn't bother in the end!
saxlover
doh tamsin! you should go!

i saw an advert thingy for it in Music teachers magazine
nicki_flute
Flutewise is very good, I am a member and am participating in the Galway thing. It has provided me with all sorts of opportunities, and without it, I wouldn't have met so many great people - both friends and amazing, professional flute players who I have learnt from and gained inspiration from.
missfabflute
Is flutewise only open to local UK flautists? ohmy.gif
Helen
I assume so, but its worth a try! Flutewise
missfabflute
Ahh it is for UK residents..i mean th events and stuff

52 pages...can last me for a long time! lol

I can't wait to receive my first issue!

Misfabflute, does this mean you're not a resident of the UK?? ohmy.gif I want to join Flutewise but I can't as I don't live in the UK either....I live on a rock in the Irish sea *sob*......
Do you live on an Island?? There may be a possibility we live on the same one! Lol....you don't happen to live on the IoM do you??
Helen
um... doesn't she live in Australia? laugh.gif
cecilia
I thought it was Malaysia she lived in... blink.gif unsure.gif
saxlover
hmm ye Malaysia rings a bell!!

hey missfabflute tell us!- get online!
missfabflute
hi peeps!

sorry i wasnt hom for the last few days...went somewhere to do my project..

anyway, Cecilia is right, i am from malaysia smile.gif

flawed but flautless, u are nearer to the UK than me!! lol
flawed but flautless
Hehe yeah I guess I am! It's kind of annoying living on the Isle of Man as well though cause you can't go to events like flutewise *sobs* and we don't have many good shops (only M&S woop woop!!). What's Malaysia like?? I'm not sure I even know where it is...lol...hmmm where's the atlas?! unsure.gif

missfabflute
Malaysia is like above singapore tongue.gif
It depends where you live in Malaysia...coz theres different stuff

I live in the city so it's just like...normal! lol

oo but the weather is just...sunny and rain all the time.
I wish we had winter (T_T)

ohmy.gif huh.gif unsure.gif blink.gif blink.gif

Have you ever visited England?

More specifically, have you ever visited Cornwall, in England, in Winter??

Trust me, the joys of being soaked, freezing, and blown to bits soon wear off! smile.gif
flawed but flautless
Ahh true...bout being blown to bits and all....we're getting the aftermath of the hurricanes at the moment aren't we?!?

But...on the other hand, winter is good-you get to wear long, woolly scarves!! biggrin.gif (yay!)

Urrrgghhh got maths coursework to do sad.gif ah well....
LittleAnna
Yeah, scarves rock! I have 7 (bit of a hoarder)
flawed but flautless
ohmy.gif 7?!?! ohmy.gif I thought I had a lot (5) but obviously not tongue.gif wow, I salute you oh scarf hoarder...lol. Hey maybe I should start a new topic/poll: "How many scarves does everyone own?!" Hehe
LittleAnna
lmao! yes that could be fun - now how on earth are we going to turn this topic around into something musical? how about, how many scarves can you wear whilst playing the flute without obstructing your mouth?
tamsin
My mum makes scarves, she wants to start a textile gallery, and at the moment scarves are her thing. And they are seriously wacky designs! So that would give me probably the most scarves... wink.gif

Erm, music, music...

Ah, ot one is the flute forum...

Do you think taking along a scarf to, say an orchestra rehersal, to wrap your flute up during long rests (to prevent it getting cold) is a good idea? Of course it would have to be a non-fluffy scarf... tongue.gif

An excellent plan Tamsin! Perhaps your mum could design flute warmers instead of scarves! biggrin.gif
flawed but flautless
Wow textiles are really cool-my auntie does embroideries that are really bizarre, but ace....

Hmm this subject has gone from flutewise to scarves...maybe I should start a new thread about musical scarves....let's see: "If you had a scarf and it was musical and played a song to you, what song would you like it to play?"
Or how about: "How many scarves can you hang from your flute at a given time without them falling off or the conductor of your orchestra getting mad at you?!" *uncomfortable silence in which everyone thinks..."okaaaayyy dry.gif what's she on about?"

blink.gif

Okay so maybe not...lol biggrin.gif

But maybe the flute warmers are a good idea....they'd at least stop our flutes from going flat in the midst of winter! Good idea Littleanna!

fbf ~x~

LittleAnna
Lol we could start a company....
tamsin
I do wish they'd create a 'rolling around on floor laughing' smilie!

I do remember actually in one particularly cold church concert spending the whole time hugging my flute, as orchestral parts for flutes seem to spend most of their time in the top octave, and (as seems to be a mantra of mine) cold flutes + high notes = disaster!

Anyway, so the market is definetly out there! Shame my knitting never got past the wobbly (ie I increase and decrease all over the place~ unintentionally!) holey (I never did find those dropped stitches) stage.

Perhaps I should ask my mother? But can you imagine peoples faces if everytime you stuck your flute on a flute stand, you slipped this fluffy wool tube over the top of it!

Shame they don't do them! They'd stay in tune during the rehersal! woo! biggrin.gif laugh.gif

I actually tried wrapping my flute in my scarf in the break on rehearsal on saturday! Worked a treat!

ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif so did I!!!! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif at youth orchestra....I wish I could say that it worked but my flute was already in tune so I can't really say it did...!

TASK: Everyone try wrapping up your flute at rehearsals....and see how much of a difference it makes to your sound!

Hehe...it's so funny making people confused!
We tried that with mini christmas hats for the flutes which we made out of "borrowed" red felt from the textiles department at school biggrin.gif
LittleAnna
We could start some sort of new crazy trend!

I think I might start a bit of an enterprise - Flute Warmers Limited. biggrin.gif
flawed but flautless
Count me in! biggrin.gif p.s sorry for exaggeration yet again! But woop woop I can't wait til my birthday! And it's nearly, oh so nearly christmas!!!
What is everyone playing at their orchestra's/jazz bands/wind bands/ big bands/ blues bands/choirs for their christmas concerts?

Singing "My heart will go on", playing with james galway wooo! *will slip that into the conversation whenever possible*. And in our mince pie morning we will probably have to play "festive flutes" again rolleyes.gif

You know, i wanted to tell my orchestra teacher that we should play one of the movements from Vivaldi's winter...

I told my self that i will practise the first movent for Xmas but it is taking too long and i haven't got the piece really together yet...
maybe the 2nd or 3rd movement tongue.gif

But my orchestra is playing Hawaii-Five-O (again dry.gif ), some japanese piece and that William tell overture! biggrin.gif can't wait for that!

We used toplay Xmas songs but they changerd the whole payout of the concert schedule.. mad.gif

Hmph..no more summer concerts for the senoirs! only primarys... mad.gif

Well it's actually October tomorrow and that means it's about two..oh ok three months away....
I'm sorry, I can't help getting excited-cause I love Christmas

We're playing the 1812 overture (again blink.gif ), New world Symphony, Pique Dame (Suppe) and Minuet from Petite Suite (Debussy)
tamsin
Hmm, I think I'm going to have to patent this idea! tongue.gif

I haven't actually gone as far as using a scraf yet, although I wonder...

Do you think you could play a scraf wrapped flute. Its just, having only been going to one of my orchestra's I have a serious case of one note per page syndrome, so I'm never getting properly warmed up!
flawed but flautless
Well I don't know....maybe we could formulate a scarf which has holes that the keys sort of slot into! Like a jumper tongue.gif
I know what you mean, the Wind Orchestra I go to on courses occasionally (I'm probably not good enough to go all the time!) has really hard music, like +grade 8 standard. I just sit there on 4th flute and go, "whaaaat?!?!"

Don't you worry Tamsin....sure Littleanna and I will come up with a plan, lol
LittleAnna
Yes! Like fingerless gloves but for flute! We'd have to find someone who could knit holes tho - or perhaps we could just drop stitches lol!
