I was given some info for it at some point, but it all seemed a bit distant for me to take part in any of their events~ so I didn't bother in the end!

Flutewise is very good, I am a member and am participating in the Galway thing. It has provided me with all sorts of opportunities, and without it, I wouldn't have met so many great people - both friends and amazing, professional flute players who I have learnt from and gained inspiration from.

Misfabflute, does this mean you're not a resident of the UK??

I want to join Flutewise but I can't as I don't live in the UK either....I live on a rock in the Irish sea *sob*......
Do you live on an Island?? There may be a possibility we live on the same one! Lol....you don't happen to live on the IoM do you??

Hehe yeah I guess I am! It's kind of annoying living on the Isle of Man as well though cause you can't go to events like flutewise *sobs* and we don't have many good shops (only M&S woop woop!!). What's Malaysia like?? I'm not sure I even know where it is...lol...hmmm where's the atlas?!
missfabflute
Sep 20 2004, 01:54 PM
Malaysia is like above singapore

It depends where you live in Malaysia...coz theres different stuff
I live in the city so it's just like...normal! lol
oo but the weather is just...sunny and rain all the time.

Ahh true...bout being blown to bits and all....we're getting the aftermath of the hurricanes at the moment aren't we?!?
But...on the other hand, winter is good-you get to wear long, woolly scarves!!

Urrrgghhh got maths coursework to do

Sep 22 2004, 04:31 PM

7?!?!

I thought I had a lot (5) but obviously not

wow, I salute you oh scarf hoarder...lol. Hey maybe I should start a new topic/poll: "How many scarves does everyone own?!" Hehe
LittleAnna
Sep 22 2004, 05:12 PM
lmao! yes that could be fun - now how on earth are we going to turn this topic around into something musical? how about, how many scarves can you wear whilst playing the flute without obstructing your mouth?
tamsin
Sep 22 2004, 05:46 PM
My mum makes scarves, she wants to start a textile gallery, and at the moment scarves are her thing. And they are seriously wacky designs! So that would give me probably the most scarves...
Erm, music, music...
Ah, ot one is the flute forum...
Do you think taking along a scarf to, say an orchestra rehersal, to wrap your flute up during long rests (to prevent it getting cold) is a good idea? Of course it would have to be a non-fluffy scarf...

An excellent plan Tamsin! Perhaps your mum could design flute warmers instead of scarves!

Sep 23 2004, 04:04 PM
Wow textiles are really cool-my auntie does embroideries that are really bizarre, but ace....
Hmm this subject has gone from flutewise to scarves...maybe I should start a new thread about musical scarves....let's see: "If you had a scarf and it was musical and played a song to you, what song would you like it to play?"
Or how about: "How many scarves can you hang from your flute at a given time without them falling off or the conductor of your orchestra getting mad at you?!" *uncomfortable silence in which everyone thinks..."okaaaayyy

what's she on about?"
Okay so maybe not...lol

But maybe the flute warmers are a good idea....they'd at least stop our flutes from going flat in the midst of winter! Good idea Littleanna!

I do wish they'd create a 'rolling around on floor laughing' smilie!
I do remember actually in one particularly cold church concert spending the whole time hugging my flute, as orchestral parts for flutes seem to spend most of their time in the top octave, and (as seems to be a mantra of mine) cold flutes + high notes = disaster!
Anyway, so the market is definetly out there! Shame my knitting never got past the wobbly (ie I increase and decrease all over the place~
unintentionally!) holey (I
never did find those dropped stitches) stage.
Perhaps I should ask my mother? But can you imagine peoples faces if everytime you stuck your flute on a flute stand, you slipped this fluffy wool tube over the top of it!

p.s sorry for exaggeration yet again! But woop woop I can't wait til my birthday! And it's nearly, oh so nearly christmas!!!

Singing "My heart will go on", playing with james galway wooo! *will slip that into the conversation whenever possible*. And in our mince pie morning we will probably have to play "festive flutes" again

Well it's actually October tomorrow and that means it's about two..oh ok three months away....
I'm sorry, I can't help getting excited-cause I love Christmas
We're playing the 1812 overture (again
), New world Symphony, Pique Dame (Suppe) and Minuet from Petite Suite (Debussy)

Hmm, I think I'm going to have to patent this idea!
I haven't actually gone as far as using a scraf yet, although I wonder...
Do you think you could play a scraf wrapped flute. Its just, having only been going to one of my orchestra's I have a serious case of one note per page syndrome, so I'm never getting properly warmed up!
flawed but flautless
Sep 30 2004, 06:40 PM
Well I don't know....maybe we could formulate a scarf which has holes that the keys sort of slot into! Like a jumper
I know what you mean, the Wind Orchestra I go to on courses occasionally (I'm probably not good enough to go all the time!) has really hard music, like +grade 8 standard. I just sit there on 4th flute and go, "whaaaat?!?!"
Don't you worry Tamsin....sure Littleanna and I will come up with a plan, lol
LittleAnna

Yes! Like fingerless gloves but for flute! We'd have to find someone who could knit holes tho - or perhaps we could just drop stitches lol!
