Hi all!!
I am seeking advise, as always!

The thing is, i have a student, age 14, and have been teaching her for 4 months, and she is already playing grade 3 peices with no problem! I have only taugh ages 4 to 9 before this student, so am unfamiliar with the tuition books for older children.

Can you recommend any? i am worried that we are missing out on building her technical ability, so would love a recommended tuition book as apposed to getting her playing peices.

Its so lovely to be teaching someone who is keen and has ability!

Please help !

I think she's already past the stage of tutor books if she's grade 3 level - this does happen sometimes with this age group if they're very motivated & able. I'd keep working on the repertoire & include relevant studies, scales & exercises. The Burgmuller op.100 are very good, as they're studies in expression as well as technical development & the kids love them. Apart from that, I might do some Czerny or Dozen a Day or Joan Last Freedom Technique.

'Hello Mr Gillock, Hello Mr Czerny' was recommended by somebody on theis forum - it looks great and around grade 3 +.

Also, the 'Next Step' Workouts book is good for technique exercises - I like it better than dozen a day. There's one which goes from G1 to G3. Not sure if there is a later one? But you could look through the first one to see if it's too easy.
