Hands up those of you who had withdrawal symptoms from not being able to get onto the forums? Perhaps it was just my computers, or rather internet providers, but I have been unable to get onto the forums since last night and have only just managed it. What did you end up doing instead?

Watched the Grand Prix, then a pub dinner with friends.
Which is what I had planned in any case.

I was quite put out! Finally watched "Northanger Abbey" which we'd had recorded since March and never got round to watching, then went to bed early.
Only just come on today, so didn't know when they had come back.

Definately missed them. When you're stuck in a hospital bed, you really miss the comeradery. I felt very lonely.

I noticed briefly that I couldn't access the fora but put it down to my dodgy network denying me internet access again and played go instead.

I'm obviously more addicted than most! I did the f5 thing for a bit, then went on MSN and moaned about the forums being down, then went downstairs and moaned about the forums being down. Then I watched five episodes of QI in a go all the while thinking "this would be better if the forums weren't down".
All of this was AFTER I'd spent my time trying to fix my internet, just in case it was a problem on my end (though I sort of knew it wasn't due to the fact that every other site was working.)

a) I dont have a paperweight.
b) The cup was being drunk from.
c) Unco-operative feline.

I imagine the mods removed it... there was an argument about homophobia. For my part I apologise for contributing to it and causing the thread to be taken down.

I was wondering that too, though I'd already decided not to contribute anymore, and I was also wondering if it had been the cause of the problem... (I thought I might have been banned for arguing or something, and so I couldn't get on to the forums...)
Was that argument at fault?
Rosemary7391
Oct 22 2007, 05:18 PM
I doubt it - remember the Mods arn't usually around on weekends. Even if you were banned they wouldn't be able to stop you viewing the forums... I think that argument was a little over-heated - we had two views that were about as far apart as is possible

I'm very sensitive about it as well - due to the fact that someone saying very similar things really upset a friend of mine who happens to be gay not so long ago. Not that that invalidates my opinion. Well it's gone now, and hopefully won't crop up again.

At first, i thought it must have been my internet that was dodgy, until the withdrawal/temptation became so large that i got my non-musical friend to check if the website was working. I can't actually really remember what i did instead, although i'm pretty sure it included recorder in some way or other, and probably watching rubbish on late night tv too.
As for the Dumbledore thread, it was getting a bit nasty and personal in there and seems like a bit too big of a coincidence that it coinincided with a complete failure/shutdown of the forums. I haven't been on the forums that long so wouldn't know if this has happened before, but it seems logical that, if none of the rules are being broken, but its still getting heated, the mods might do something to reprimand people to encourage to to behave badly.
Hmm, what a load of rambling....sorry...

Heated arguments have happened lots of times while I've been here, and in my experience, the mods lock the thread, then delete it. It's never caused anything of this magnitude to the best of my knowledge.

The whole abrsm site failed, so either the server crashed or someone went and pulled the wrong plug out or dug up the road.
