Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am trying to find out the name of a piece for trumpet (and I have heard it played on euphonium too) as I cannot remember the name. It might be a Fantasia...
It is very fast, lots of notes and I would recognise it if I heard it. It is quite well known (but also difficult).
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Susan
p.s. I apologise for the random question!

It is a solo piece/study. No other instruments.

more clues required: perhaps an idea of the first few notes, where you heard it, anything really. Unless it's the flight of the bumble bee.

Hmm, ok I'll see if I can come up with some more clues. I have only heard it twice - once when a friend was playing it on euphonium and once on Classic FM.
As far as I remember - it starts of with a lively (major I think) tune and then gradually gets more and more complex (possibly theme and variations). The final part has two or three tunes going on at once.
Just trumpet, I don't think there was any accompaniment.
A couple of minutes long.
It is not the Flight of the Bumble Bee.
If I think of anything else I will let you know!

I'm not a trumpet player, but I vaguely remember a piece called 'Zelda' that I think possibly fits those criteria (but it may well have had a piano accompaniment). Can't I'm afraid remember a composer.
Hope this helps.

I just worked out what it is! It only took about an hour searching online through trumpet repertoire...

It is the Fantasie Theme and Variations on The Carnival of Venice.
It does have an accompaniment (full orchestra or just piano - I think I must have just heard it without accompaniment). Now I just need to find a good version of it to get a CD with it on (or get from iTunes).
Thank you for helping me.

It's in the Arban book, part 3.
I was going to suggest the mystery piece could have been Brilliante Fantasie, also in the Arban part 3
There is a piano acc book available as well
On CD they're both on some of the Wynton Marsalis CD's.
