I'd just like to echo what everyone else has said. It was another very enjoyable event. Thanks once again to Katyjay and AmandaL for the time and effort they put into organising and running these occasions. It was good to see familiar faces there and also to meet some new ones. Thanks as well to Carl my duet partner.

Thank you for the kind comments in my feedback envelope, everyone. To whoever asked who Schaffrath was, he is a minor German baroque composer contemporary with C P E Bach. He was one of a group of musicians and composers whom Frederick II of Prussia gathered around him. He was a harpsichordist and instrumental player (my information doesn't say which instrument - maybe more than one). I had an introduction prepared, but in the excitement of gathering up stool, music stand and music, pulling out spike and tuning up, forgot to do my introduction! I must do a note to myself for future occasions as it's not the first time I've done (or not done) that huh.gif

They are great! Why is your photo smaller than all the others?

Edit: It's OK, the rest of you has now appeared... tongue.gif

In general I reckon looking cheerful while performing is a challenge too far! I expect most of the facial expressions can be attributed to extreme concentration. smile.gif

I'm very sorry to have missed it - hope to be back next year. Must try harder to get the Tax return out of the way early. Did anyone else take any pictures or were you all too busy? The Light Beat did a grand job again.

So nice to see the pictures - and to find I knew who at least half of you were !

Pleased to know you all had a good time. Like Barry I must try to get one crow-barred into the diary ahead of time another year ...

Great photos, looks like it was a great day!

Not sure that there's much else I can add, but well done to everyone for playing, katyjay and AmandaL for organising the whole day, The Light Beat for acting as official photographer, onion for organising the meal afterwards, StuMac for being brave enough to sit between carol*piano and me, and the lovely Dermott for bringing me the full-time score woot.gif

Wow, that was quick work! Do I need to buy a new hat...? wink.gif

Well, young love was very sweet that day, and I'm always up for buying new hats. Want to meet at your local branch of Felicity Hat Hire next weekend? The Carol involved isn't carol*piano, so your hopes aren't completely dashed wink.gif

We'll my dear Deborah there's certainly a look off dogged determination. People taking picture's of me singing playing the oboe or recorders I don't mind, but some how it I were playing the piano, I think I'd look like a startled rabbit staring into the headlights of an on coming car. Compared with that Deborah, you fare rather well.

What you looked like isn't as important as how you sounded. Unfortunately I wasn't there , however at this moment I trust everyone who was there will spring to your aid and say how beautifully you played.
carol*piano
willobie - Carol was a real superstar with her marathon session of accompanying
andante_in_c - Carol*piano did an amazing job with a huge number of accompaniments to play
Suepea - Carol's accompanying marathon was much appreciated
SaxFan - thank you also to C*P who did a fantastic job of accompanying
katyjay - especially Carol for the mammoth accompanying
Alto - Also thanks to Carol for her marathon accompaniments
Carl - Carol piano for accompanying us

blush.gif Thanks everyone - I really enjoyed it though was somewhat knackered by the end! blink.gif

(and I look it in the pictures! dry.gif )

Deborah - StuMac for being brave enough to sit between carol*piano and me

which was of course was his dream come true... rolleyes.gif wink.gif

Deborah - "Carl and Carol" - the Carol involved isn't carol*piano, so your hopes aren't completely dashed wink.gif

Thank you for clarifying that Deborah! biggrin.gif

(sorry - too many quotes for normal quoting to work!)

Alto
Thank you Light Beat and Sue pea for organising the photos - they are very good. I don't remember the one being taken of Katyjay and myself - I must have been concentrating really hard trying to control that shaky bow. Thank you all for the experience of being able to play with other adult learners and to get the help and encouragement we all need. Thanks again to Katyjay and AmandaL for arranging it all.

SaxFan
apologies for not staying on afterwards... various reasons just made it not practical/sensible ... sad.gif

but nice to meet you all again or afresh biggrin.gif

I'm quite chuffed. biggrin.gif A photo of me where I look 'normal' blink.gif

It's just that in most photos I end up in, I always seem to end up with a cheesey grin on my face and it looks dreadful ph34r.gif

Seems ages ago now! It really was an excellent day, well done KatyJay and Amandal for organising everything - Carol's epic accompanying was quite something. The meal was really good too - nice way to 'round off the event.

I got bck home but only just.....engineering works on the tube really slowed journey to London city and I arrived at 10 past 4 for a flight that departed at 25 to 5!

It certainly looks like you had a great day.

I did offer to come along with some microphones and record the event - but got no reply to my PM, so assumed it was not wanted. sad.gif

I don't think that recording is a good idea for the Adult Learners concerts as the general idea behind them is to allow very nervous performers a 'safe' environment to play in. For many just getting up and playing to what has always been a very supportive audience is quite enough to cope with. For this reason recording the concert is not really a good idea.
On adult learner said that one strength of these events is that there isn't too much pressure to be perfect; it's about having a go, enjoying sharing what you can do with others and supporting them in return.

I have now had some feedback via PM and this seems to be the reason.

I just thought it might be fun and an opportunity for those performing to hear what they really sound like - it would have been not for general distribution, just for the performers (unless they wanted otherwise).

Actually I normally charge about £400 a day for recording - but offering to do a freebie like this gives me a chance to experiment with new microphones and techniques that I can't do when I have a paying customer.

Ahhh well - maybe another time.

sbhoa, what you said is pretty much what I said in my PM to John. It sounds like a good idea in theory, but regretfully I believe it would only create pressure for the performers. Thanks for the offer though John.

may we know who the PM was from? Who did you PM with your offer ?
please

katyjay
It was I who received a PM from John. And unfortunately, in the welter of messages I dealt with in setting up Teddington, my responding to John's message got overlooked.

I have apologised for this and explained the position that I took on the matter of recording after consulting a number of other forums members. I think this matter is now closed.

Thanks to everyone for their contributions, before during and after the event
